The color pink is synonymous to femininity and grace. This October, pink goes into a deeper purpose–to spread breast cancer awareness. October marks the Breast Cancer Awareness month wherein breast cancer charities team up to raise funds for diagnosis, cure, and awareness of the said disease suffered mostly by women. It has been 30 years since American Cancer Society and Imperial Chemical Industries (presently a part of Astra Zeneca, a known manufacturer of breast cancer drugs) partnered to promote awareness, research, detection, and cure of the disease. The Pink Ribbon has been extablished as the official symbol for the campaign by the Vice President of Esteé Lauder Group of Companies, Evelyn Lauder.
Breast cancer knows no age or lifestyle. It just hits you like lightning. You may be 24 years old, having the time of your life and still be inflicted with it. This campaign aims to develop awareness among women–to do monthly self-breast examinations and annual mammograms because as the cliché goes, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

Unlike most types of cancer, breast cancer is curable as long as it is detected early. We have read and heard about many breast cancer survivors like Maritoni Fernandez and Patti Bettita, to name a few, who have recovered because of early detection.
