It’s clear that the runways of the recently-concluded Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 embraced color. Beauty authority L'Oreal Paris collaborated with PHFW in interpreting the Filipino designers' works of art. As a result, bright, daring, unexpected colors were seen on the muses who graced the runway: Turquoise, teal, tangerine, crimson, plum, and metallic shades gave the right jolt of color to luminized skin. We round up our favorite beauty trends:
Trend 1: Luminous Skin. Albert Andrada and Cary Santiago's dreamy creations were complemented by ladies with radiant complexions (real skin doesn’t look matte!). To make your skin glow this summer, a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream should do the trick. It’s time to give full-coverage foundations a rest and let skin breathe freely during the hotter months.
Trend 2: Metallic Smokey Eyes. Silvers, coppers, and gold smokey eyes were spotted on the catwalks of Jerome Salaya Ang and Sassa Jimenez. A great evening look to wear during candlelit cocktails by the beach, cop the trend by using eye primer when doing a smokey eye, to avoid shimmer migrating all over your face.
Trend 3: Electric Pop. Ezra Santos, Lizanne Cua, and Dax Bayani showcased contrasting and shocking makeup colors. Make this trend wearable (and normal-looking) for real life by using colored liner against sharp black winged eyeliners. If you’re too scared to wear a bright lip, opt for a tinted lip balm or a sheer glossy lipstick instead.
Trend 4: Dark Lips. A strong beauty trend that continues from Holiday 2012, dark wine lips create a bold mysterious aura. Sassa Jimenez and Vania Romoff's models showed off bold pouts for their shows; it’s the quickest way to make a statement at an evening affair (just don't forget to retouch!).
Trend 5: The Glossover. Nude glossy lips look amazing against bronzed skin. The look is carefree, and best of all, can be worn by all types of women. 3D lips were observed at Albert Andrada, Jerome Salaya Ang, Cary Santiago, and Dax Bayani.
Trend 6: Sleek, mid-parted hair. As spied on runways of Melchor Guinto and Dax Bayani, this seemed the fuss-free hairstyle of the season (the relaxed strands remind us of '70s hippie culture!). For naturally straight-haired girls, massage shine serum onto strands from lengths to ends. Gals with curly or wavy hair, don’t fret: just part locks in the middle and massage a curl-enhancing product, since summer is all about embracing your natural hair texture.
Trend 7: Chignons. For evening affairs, the classic chignon still wins the game. The elegant updo was sighted during Eric delos Santos and on Cary Santiago's muses. Make this trend less matronly by going for something softer and more undone.
Trend 8: The Modern Beehive. L'Oreal hairstylists made the mod hairstyle more up-to-date at Vania Romoff by making the hive messier and softer.
Trend 9: Top Knots. As seen in Gerry Katigbak, the top knot is always fashionable—bad hair days know no excuse because of this quick remedy, and as in SM Parisan, the look gets edged up when paired with faux bangs to complete the ensembles.
Trend 10: Ponytails. Luxewear models proved that the lazy hairdo can be still be sassy and elegant. Modernize the look by curling the ends for a cute bouncy effect.
