Nature's Best Shu Uemura unveils its 2009 make-up competition.

Budding artists better get cracking: on May 26th, Shu Uemura's first-ever local make-up competition officially begins, marking the opportunity for Filipino purveyors of beauty who've always wanted to make a career of it to finally go legit. The competition, which Mr. Shu Uemura himself started way back in 1972 to a foreign market, takes Mother Nature as its theme for 2009, celebrating our planet's beauty, energy and life-giving aspects.

Depending on their existing experience, applicants may choose to enter in the “novice” (slim to no pro experience, perhaps with a certificate or degree from a make-up course) or “professional” category (pro artists, beauty stylists and freelancers). They must have no current ties to other make-up brands and have to fill out an entry form, available at the Shu Uemura boutique in the Power Plant Mall. Other requirements to be submitted in an envelope with the form are:

• An unedited photo of beauty artwork, at least 5R in size and using at least 5 items from Shu Uemura

• An unedited video of the actual make-up application process

Applications should be addressed to Shu Uemura Product Manager, Lyra Importante, and submitted at either of the two addresses on or before July 8th:

• Shu Uemura Boutique
2nd Level, North Wing
Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center
Makati City

• L'Oréal Philippines, Inc.
23/F Robinson's Equitable Tower
#4 ADB Avenue cor. Poveda Street
Ortigas, Pasig City

Only 20 entries (10 novice, 10 pro) will be chosen to vie for the top 10 cut (5 novice, 5 pro) via screening on July 10th. Those lucky to be in the shortlist will be contacted via text message, or you may personally verify your acceptance at the Shu Uemura boutique at (632) 897-8575.

The core 10 entries will compete on September 15th for the local finals, with the professional category winner competing in the regional finals in KL, Malaysia, on October 26th. Winners of the competition will be awarded with plum prizes such as Shu Uemura artist starter sets, make-up boxes, brush sets and cold cash.

Ed's tip: judges will be looking out for the overall look, color composition, blending techniques, and good ol' artistry and creativity in the submissions, so put your game face on and get to it!
