The 23-year old Filipino-American beauty Megan Young brought home the crown at the Miss World 2013 pageant held in Bali, Indonesia. Her recent victory makes it the Philippines' first ever Miss World win. The closest we were to winning were during Evangeline Pascual’s time in 1973 when she placed first runner-up and in 1993,when Ruffa Guttierez grabbed the second place title.
During her teen years, Megan wore glasses, had braces, and sported unruly, curly hair–the opposite qualities of the glamorous It Girl. Megan then decided it was time to come out of her shell so she joined GMA 7’s reality show, StarStruck. Though she got eliminated before entering the finals, Megan continued to be seen on TV playing small roles. Two years after, the wide-eyed lady made the big jump to rival network ABS-CBN. Here, she had support roles in several TV series until her first big break as the lead in afternoon series Hiyas, opposite Zanjoe Marudo. Her performance in the romantic drama finally turned Megan Young into a household name.
Did we expect the self-confessed awkward and shy Megan to bring glory to our country in such a prestigious pageant? Yes, we did and so did many other Filipinos who believed in her and supported her all the way.
Early in the competion, Megan was already a favorite. She was hailed as the best candidate during Miss World's Top Model event. In the said category, Megan walked in a gown designed by Indonesian princess and designer, Ayu Mirah Suardhana. Megan also won in several other categories. People around the globe started buzzing about Megan's beauty, grace, and her big chances of winning. Finally, on the coronation night, she sealed the deal when her name was called as this year's title-holder.
Her triumph has made every Filipino proud and we are sure that her fans and aspiring beauty queens would love to decode her winning look. View our gallery to see our easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions now!
