As far as celebrity couples go, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes are an open book. Their 13-year relationship progressed practically in front of the public eye, and they've been the epitome of #couplegoals ever since.
That said, even stars as big as they are have their own "secrets." For one, Marian and Dingdong have rarely talked about their matching tattoos, because yes—they have one!
Marian is popularly known to only have one tattoo, which is that of a butterfly on her nape. She got it to immortalize the memory of Dingdong's marriage proposal in the Butterfly Pavilion in Macau, and as a symbol of their love.
But during an interview with celebrity hairstylist Celeste Tuviera, Marian revealed that she had another small tattoo on her right ankle. According to the actress, she and her husband had each others' initials inked on this area while they were still dating.
We failed to find a clear photo of the tattoo, but photos from Marian's Instagram feed suggest that the ink reads "dd" for Dingdong Dantes. The actor's real name is Jose Sixto Dantes III.
Meanwhile, Dingdong's ankle tattoo bears the letters "mgd". He got in 2009, around the time dating rumors between him and Marian were still swirling. This led to a lot of media attention to the ink: many correctly speculated that it was connected to the actress, but were thrown off by the extra letter.
Dingdong only confirmed the meaning of his tattoo five years later, when he was already engaged to the actress. In a Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho segment, the actor said that "mgd" stands for Marian Gracia Dantes. "Kaya nga 'di ko po [pinapakita] dahil pinangunahan ko masyado," he said, addressing why he refused to talk about the tattoo before.
According to Marian, Dingdong had her initials tattooed on him first, and she simply followed suit with hers. Apparently, he told her, "gusto kitang i-tattoo para nakaflow ka na sa dugo ko, 'di ka na pwede umalis." Mind you, they were only boyfriend and girlfriend at the time!
Getting initial tattoos of an S.O. may be risky, but it definitely worked out for the best for this power couple!
