Maldita Studio We try out Maldita Studio's services.

Maldita Studio is a spinoff from the successful clothing brand, Maldita. They just opened last February. The L'Oréal-exclusive salon had amazingly affordable rates, and we wonder: Do their services garner top-of-the-line results? Read on to know what happened!

What was your first impression of the salon?

I always loved places that were minimalist in nature; clean lines always get me excited, and Maldita’s new salon had all the things I wanted in an establishment. Maldita Studio has ample room that won’t make any client feel like cramped, and the lighting was just right and above all, flattering.

What services did you get?

I recently had my hair colored but it faded to a dull brown shade. I wanted to dye my hair back to red, something vibrant but not too extreme. I also got a hair treatment after my color to protect from fading and to keep it moisturized and vibrant for a longer period.

How was the process?

The process took about three hours, but honestly did not feel like it. I first consulted with my stylist as to what shade I should get; I wanted red but something that didn't involve pre-lightening my hair (I’m too scared of bleaching or anything of that kind!) We decided on reddish brown with hints of burgundy. He first analyzed my hair and asked me about previous treatments I’ve done so they could give me the proper service.

He noticed that my hair had streaks, which used to be bright red but faded into a copper shade. He first darkened my streaks before applying the base so that should it fade, my past streaks wouldn’t show.

After about two-and-a-half, they rinsed my hair to reveal a vibrant red shade—not too drastic and the right level of color that I wanted. Finally, they applied a mask to protect my hair from color fade before my final rinse, and then a blow dry.

Did you like the results?

I definitely liked the results; they got the right shade for my hair and it turned out great. Not only that, they answered all the questions I had, addressed the after-care, and even my numerous questions about bleaching.

Are you willing to go back and avail of their services again?

I would be willing to go back. Not only do they have great service and make use of great products, they also come in affordable prices. The distance of the salon from my place is a bit too far though, so I’m looking forward to nearer branches opening soon.

What was your first impression of the salon?

I was impressed with the spacious floor area of the salon. I don't like crowded salons—a crowded salon, with seats too close to each other, makes me feel like other people are getting into my personal space. The V.I.P. rooms are a plus because you can enjoy private chitchats while having your locks pampered.

What services did you get?

I wanted to have my hair colored because of my gray hair (genetics!). My stylist Lhem suggested I get highlights in different tones of warm brown, and that the base color would just be a shade lighter than my natural hair color. I also got a manicure and a pedicure since my hands and feet were desperate for pampering. I've been neglecting myself in that department (I know, I shouldn't!).

How was the process?

I felt like a spoiled princess because while I was having my hair dyed into different colors, a nail technician was busy painting on my nails. Lhem took time; his precise moves impressed me because he corrected a bad herbal hair treatment I had last January. The herbal hair treatment turned my gray strands into an ugly shade of brassy rust. He paid attention to each ugly strand, no exaggerations! After his tedious hair transformation he sealed my cuticles with a treatment. My nails also looked summer-ready—I chose a neon red polish. All their nail products are from ORLY.

Did you like the results?

I definitely like the subtle base color he used on my hair. It wasn't too radical and the highlights made my hair look like it had  never undergone a bad salon experience. I'm using a sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner, and mask to maintain the color's vibrance.

Are you willing to go back and avail of their services again?

If it wasn't so far from where I live and if I were around the Timog area, I would have my color retouched here. I heard they will be opening a Makati branch soon  so I can't wait! I just hope Lhem is there too!

Hair color services start at P1500 (depending on hair length). See our Salon and Spas Directory for details.
