Once you hit your 40s, some products won't look the same on you as they did 20 years ago—and there's nothing wrong with that. Your skin, like the rest of you, is changing, so it's only natural that your beauty habits evolve, too.
If it's your makeup routine that's due for an upgrade, you have to follow Bobbi Brown (@justbobbibrown) on TikTok! Known for her natural, fuss-free approach as a makeup artist, the founder of Jones Road Beauty is now more than 300,000 people's go-to for practical for beauty tips. And being 65 years old herself, she's a pro at navigating makeup woes for mature skin!
Makeup Artist Bobbi Brown's Tips for Mature Skin
In one video, Bobbi shared her ultimate makeup tip for women over 45: "Use products that are moisturizing and not drying." Simple enough, right?
She explained, "As we get older, we want to make sure the texture on the skin looks smooth, looks even, doesn't look cakey. And I definitely believe that moisture is the way to do it."
That said, there are different ways to incorporate moisture into your makeup routine. Here are four that are Bobbi-approved:
1. Always moisturize.
Before putting any makeup, Bobbi advises, "Start with a moisturizer that will hydrate your skin." This can be a oil-free moisturizer if you're on the oily side, or an emollient cream if you have very dry skin. The point is, don't put makeup on a bare face!

2. Use a hydrating foundation.
You want your base to look radiant, so avoid mattifying foundations. Instead, go for a hydrating formula that'll give you a healthy, dewy finish. Liquid and cream foundations are your best bets for this!

3. Use a cream blush.
"Instead of a powder blush, why not a cream blush?" said Bobbi. Again, you want to go for something that'll give you an extra glow, and creams are superior over powder in that department.
Cream blushes are great multitaskers, too, so they're definitely worth stocking up on. You can use them as eyeshadow or even lipstick if you're in a rush!

4. Don't be afraid of a little shimmer.
Highlighter may be intimidating, but it's easy to fall in love with once you find the right product. "A little bit of luminosity on the cheek is really pretty. I'm not saying put your hand in a big pot of glitter or shimmer and put it on but strategically, a little bit, looks really pretty," the makeup artist assures.
For a low-key glow, get a sheer liquid or balm highlighter and apply a little bit on top of your cheekbones. We swear, you'll immediately see the difference!
