We can all agree that eyelash curlers were always one of the more intimidating beauty tools in the box. At first, those silver clamps can be pretty scary to use, especially given that they shave so close to the eyeball. But, after years of using them, many of us have probably brushed off these thoughts as irrational fears. What could possibly go wrong?
Sadly, these old worries came to life for Maine Mendoza. On November 19, the actress took to social media to share her "eyelash curler nightmare". While getting ready, she had clamped her lashes too hard, ripping out several hairs. She posted a low-angle selfie that revealed the extent of the damage: Half of the lashes on her left eye had been pulled out. She also shared a photo of her lashes still stuck to the curler.
And in case you're wondering—yup, those are her real eyelashes, not falsies.

"Eyelash curler nightmare!!!" she wrote on Instagram. "Yup, real lashes. This is what happens when you put too much pressure on an eyelash curler (without finger rings), you get a chunk of your lashes ripped out in a flash. Girls, go easy when curling if you don’t want a semi-kalbo lid."
That's not all. Makeup artist Mikka Marcaida expressed that the accident was "major" to her, because she doesn't use falsies on Maine!
Following this relatable accident, fellow celebrities and influencers expressed their sympathy in Maine's comment section:

We echo a similar sentiment: Hoping your lashes recover quickly, Maine!
