Beckoning the start of the new season, MAC Cosmetics has rounded up some of the biggest beauty trends from the Fall/Winter runways in New York, Paris, Milan, and London. They brought in Regan Rabanal, the Senior Manager for Makeup Artistry for Asia Pacific, to present the brand's makeup directions for the cooler months: Romanticism, Modernism, Suprematism, and Art Deco. Ahead, we'll take you through Regan's presentation, summarized in four key trends that you won't help but add into your makeup arsenal:

1. Painterly and Flushed

This season's direction with blush takes inspiration from the faces at Antonio Marras, which were made in the image of the glowing, directionally-flushed complexions in Amedeo Modigliano's art. "Having this trend being inspired by actual paintings, we want to create that actual painting look where cheeks are really flushed in the center—less of a beauty contour but more of a flush," explains Regan.

He demonstrates the look by mixing two lipsticks—a brick red and a peach beige—on the center of the cheek as cream blush, dragging the color downwards with fingers to diffuse the color. The same colors are combined on the lips over a layer of lip conditioner—the red fading out from the center of mouth into the soft coral color. To add color to the eyes, Regan tapped lip conditioner over the eyelids for a satin glow and the coral shade on top for a soft contrast.

2. Lived-in Eyeliner

Eyeliner that's smudged, lived-in, and quite frankly, a little messy were the key looks in Palomo Spain and Marques' Almeida. "Typically with eyeliner we sometimes worry about making it symmetrical and it has to be perfect," says Regan. "Today I invite you to think outside the box. It doesn't have to be exactly the same. That's what makes it really special."

The trick to pulling off these messy, graphic lines is to tailor them to your eye shape. Use a gel liner for a semi-precise application that you can easily smudge, or a kohl pencil for when you want a more malleable texture. Nevermind that your eyeliner and mascara are transferring to your eyelid; as long as it has a flattering shape made with your bone structure in mind, Regan assures you that it'll work out. A polished complexion is also key to such a grunge-inspired eye, though, so pour all the time you saved on your messy cat eye in making sure your base is even and seamless.

3. Reinvented Red Lip

Red-tinged lips are a trend practically every season, but there's so much more you can do with rouge than you probably imagine. The makeup in the Matty Bovan show, for example, had a glossy, two-toned look with a blackened purple outlining the lower lip but filled in with a vibrant red. More precision is required for this than usual, so Regan recommends looking in the mirror and tilting your head back to check your lines. Meanwhile, if you're up for something more wearable yet still fresh, cop the soft, vintage red lip from Oscar de la Renta by blurring the edges of your lip line for a cloudy and effortless texture.

4. Art Deco Eyes

"This season celebrates the art of elaboration in makeup, translated in mesmerizing detail across the eye," says MAC senior artist Victor Cembellin. "This is a knowing approach to decoration, it is pared-back in its excess: deliberate, crafted, considered choices of adornment which are turned up to the max but executed with composed artistry." In short, this trend direction encourage you to be your own canvas. Max out on the decoration, be it as simple as creating a palette of watercolor hues on your eyes as in the runways of Kenzo, demonstrated by Regan by blending vibrant eyeshadow all over the eyelids and draped over the temples and cheeks. You can also opt for a full deconstructed glitter look like in Ashish, or if you want to get craftier, check out the silver foils and lashes at Giambattista Valli and the gold-leafed lids in the Michael Halpern show by Issamaya French
