MAC Cosmetics has yet again become an essential element for our party makeup. Their holiday collection, Divine Night, is based on their successful Mineralize line: baked makeup goodies that result in an incandescent complexion. You’ll also notice a reference to the heydays of the 1970s—the height of disco, big hair, Halston, and glam. MAC makeup artist, Dalal Mansour, flew in from Australia to divulge some tricks on how to glimmer this holiday season without resembling a disco ball.
1. Wearing shimmer in the tropics
Divine Night is primarily composed of jewel-toned shimmery goodness, we couldn’t help but ask Dalal her tips on how to use them here in our humid climate without looking sweaty. She gladly shares that we can still wear shimmer as long as we balance it with a matte face. We can add a proper dose of gleam on our faces on its highest points: cheekbones, browbones, and the cupid’s bow. A little sparkle on the eye can brighten your gaze especially when you choose to wear a smoky eye.
2. Maximizing your eye shadow palettes
We also inquired on how to maximize the use of the Stroke of Midnight eye palettes that come in such pretty pigments, she explains that we can use the lighter colors for day or as a simple wash on our lids for a simple eye look. We can then go all out with the darker colors for the evening to produce a bold smolder.
3. A vamp lip without looking like a vampire
Pulling off dark lipstick seems to be the common goal of most lipstick lovers right now because vamp lips of the 1920s and 1990s are making a comeback. Wearing a dark lip can sometimes make you look like a vampire instead of a vampy vixen, Dalal quickly shares that adding a bit of warmth with a bronzer or the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powders on the skin will veer you away from Twilight territory.
