Check Out The New Nasty Gal Lipsticks For Mac A Q&A with Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso about her sassy new makeup line.

Joining the ranks of fashion labels that are diving into the world of beauty, Nasty Gal teams up with MAC to create a collection of high-intensity shades fit for a #GirlBoss. Founder Sophia Amoruso spills the beans on how the collab came to life and shares her earliest memory of wearing makeup. When a 10 year old wears mascara, you know she’s bound to succeed.

How did this collaboration with MAC Cosmetics come about?

I was put in touch with MAC through a mutual friend who thought a collaboration would be an interesting thing to explore. It was immediately obvious that the two brands are so complementary that we decided to get started right away. Like Nasty Gal, MAC is a bold, outspoken brand – so the collaboration has been entirely natural.

What is your earliest memory of wearing makeup? How has your look changed over the years? Have you always been of fan of MAC?

I think I started wearing mascara at about age 10. After that, I went through a brown lipstick phase that was pretty gross. Then, after years of not wearing much make up at all during high school, I got pretty into it and really learned what I was doing. MAC has always been a beauty brand I love, especially their lip colors!

Tell us about shooting the campaign visual.

We shot in Brooklyn at Fast Ashley’s. Being the face of a beauty collaboration is a pretty crazy thing. I’m not a model. But the team was so talented – from the hair and makeup to the stylist, Prince, and everyone on MAC’s team, it was a dream. There was a lot of great music, a lot of dancing, and a little champagne. I left with blonde eyebrows and went straight to Roberta’s in Bushwick for pizza.

Your new book, #Girlboss, tells your personal story and provides career advice for young women. What is the one piece of beauty advice you can provide to young career-driven women?

Don’t overdo it. Be bold, but be choosy. A strong lip or a dark eye, but never too much.

What’s the best way to take your beauty style from the office to a night out with your friends?

It's always important to put my best lip forward – literally. I always have a lip color – whether I leave the house with it on or toss it on right before dinner, I feel safe knowing that a little bit of color is close by.

Your personal style is bold (six-inch platforms, motorcycle jackets, rock tees, and shredded denim). Is this reflected in your beauty style?

Yes! While I am actually very approachable, I generally don’t dress the part. I have severe bangs,  near-black hair, and generally either a bold lip or cat eye.

Nasty Gal encourages women to dress for themselves and own their style. Is this the same for beauty?

Definitely. We want women to feel empowered to pull off a purple lip or a classic red with the same ballsy attitude.

Describe your daily beauty routine.

I use Lancer skincare, and after that use a bit of a tinted moisturizer, concealer, and a few licks of mascara. Once in a while I’ll add a red lip and go! I am always late, so the less routine the better.
