Lyn Ching on Why She Prefers Having No Makeup for News Coverages

When floods and typhoons occur, reporters are among the first people to hit the ground. The task is risky and demanding, but it's all part of the job to effectively chronicle how natural disasters are affecting communities.

This is something veteran reporter Lyn Ching knows all too well. With years of experience working for various news outlets, the 53-year-old is no stranger to reporting live from places struck by calamities.

Given that her line of work requires her to step in front of a camera all the time, some netizens have wondered how she maintains a pristine visage. As it turns out, though, Lyn has been opting out of makeup whenever duty calls.

When consecutive low-pressure areas caused widespread flooding in Bulacan and nearby areas, Lyn was among the first journalists to report from the field. With flood control scandals and government negligence still part of the public conversation, the reporter couldn't help but air her frustrations over the recurring floods.

During a live broadcast of morning show Unang Hirit, Lyn is visibly irritated by the situation, using sarcasm to express her disdain over the lack of government support.

In the comments section of one of her personal Instagram posts, a slew of celebrities and public figures echoed her sentiments for accountability. "Filipinos don't deserve this as their new normal," one commented, echoing Lyn's statement during the broadcast.

Other users couldn't help but inquire about the makeup Lyn had on during the stormy news coverage. She addressed this in a separate Reel, saying, "Bakit ako magme-makeup sa bagyo, eh buburahin ko naman? Plus, I like my face without [makeup.]"

In her accompanying caption, she mentioned that having a bare face on national television is no issue for her, especially since she's been in the industry for decades. "Maybe it’s confidence, or maybe I just don’t care as much as I used to. Again, I'm 53, many things don’t matter to me anymore," she added.

Lyn also went on to enumerate the pieces she wore during the broadcast, which consisted of a raincoat, waders, and her company uniform. Some netizens took this as a subtle jab at public officials from Pampanga who visited flooded areas in designer garments. In Lyn's comments section, more of her supporters expressed their admiration for her simplicity and commitment to her work.
