With the right application, no lipstick shade on earth could look too intense. You can tone down any hue even if it's as dark as plum or bright as orange to the point where you'd absolutely wear it every day. According to Estée Lauder global beauty director Violette, all you need to do is to remove the graphic look of the lip line, as seen here:
Even if she used a vibrant shade of red, the makeup artist reduced the intensity of the look by blurring out the edges of her lips. She calls this "french kissed" lips, a technique that creates the illusion of freshly-kissed lips or the effect of blotting your lipstick onto a piece of tissue. Her trick is to blend out the lip line with a small brush while the lipstick hasn't dried down, making sure to blend not too far beyond your natural shape. Watch exactly how she does it below!
