Braids are one of the first hairstyles you learn to do on yourself as a child after the ponytail. The simple weaving is hypnotic for a young girl, enough to make it stick as a fond beauty memory. As we grow older though, we slowly learn that there are more styles where that simple braid came from, and we can do a lot to make it look more glam and event-ready compared to our childhood knots.
Having colored hair, for example, is a simple way to make your braid look less plain. The color doesn't even have to be bright; even a subtle brown like Megan Young's that is slowly fading into her black base color will do. It will give it dimension, just like how contouring and highlighting works for your face.
