Liz Uy's bright outlook on the new year wasn't the only thing that beamed during our digital cover shoot. Her highlighter was certainly in on the concept, too, looking blinding both IRL and in photos. Her makeup artist Omar Ermita did some kind of magic on her beauty look that day, the secrets of which he revealed to us below:

To make Liz's skin look dewy but not oily, Omar spread a thin layer of illuminating cream all over her skin to give it a natural glow. He then used a tinted base to even out her skin tone, picking one with a natural, skin-like finish without the greasy feel.

The strobe of light that glowed on Liz's cheeks was a cream highlighter from her own makeup bag. The way Omar applied it made all the difference: With a stippling brush, he buffed the highlighter over the high points of her cheekbones. "I follow the cheekbone to make sure the highlighter pops when the light hits it," he explains.

To complete the look, Liz wore a soft smokey eye with minimal eyeliner. "Liz used to always wear smokey eyes, and then she had a phase where she only wore eyeliner. I wanted to do a throwback to her smokey days but more pared down," says the makeup artist.
Her lips were a combo of nude shades that were also from her personal makeup bag—a matte pencil to define her lip line and a beige liquid lipstick for full yet natural color payoff.
