MAC Cosmetics is known to push the boundaries and set trends for the most versatile canvass: the face. We were lucky to catch MAC Pro Senior Artist Victor Cembellin as he shared the hottest beauty trends that graced the international Spring/Summer 2013 runways. Read on for the season's best:
Muses from Blumarine, Prabal Gurung, and Tory Burch all had luminous, polished skin. The skin looked perfected, like the moment you come home from a relaxing facial. Cheekbones are defined through soft contours and had dabbed-on highlighter. Boyish brows framed a radiant face, making it leaning a bit towards the feminine side of androgynous beauty.
Pretty pastels are on parade for the summer, the trend being inspired by the designers who gave digital prints a go this season. As seen in Roksanda Illincic, Monique Lhuillier, and Peter Som, shades from seascapes and sunsets like turquoise, lilac, lemon, mint, aqua, apple, and peach sent out dreamy signals. Touches of metallics like silvers and golds added glitz to the macaron tones.
MAC makeup artists made an ode to the age of Psychedelia, the '60s. The makeup was very graphic, gutsy, and intentional: Catwalkers from Just Cavalli, Elie Saab, and Moschino each had a single pop of hyper-bright pigments—like an intensely orange lip against a bare face, or electric purple lids paired with a nude lip—and making it all about bold, futuristic minimalism.
Spring/Summer won't be complete without the spotlight on tanned complexions. Faces from Rebecca Taylor, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Katie Gallagher all told a story in gleaming sepia. We love the soft touches of bronzer on areas of the face where the sun naturally touches, and the accompanying smokey copper eyes look effortless but sophisticated, two words to best describe how any summer look should be.
