Build your look from the lips up!

Sometimes, before we even do our makeup, we already know the lipstick we want to use for the day. The tricky part then lies in what that lip color choice would mean for the rest of our look. Here are a few no-fail ideas on how you can do your makeup around your chosen lip of the day:

Nude lipstick

To avoid looking pale in a glossy nude lip, don't be shy with the bronzer and warm up your complexion. On the eyes, play with dark browns and light bronzes to match the shine on your pout.

Pink gloss

Skin that is dewy and fresh goes perfectly with a glossy pink lip. Lightly fill in your brows and apply your favorite highlighter and dewy foundation to achieve an unbelievably glowy look. Blush is optional, but if you wish to apply some, do so with a very light hand.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes, P390, SM Megamall

Simple shades like this require the least effort to match with other colors. We suggest swiping a champagne eyeshadow all over your lids for a soft highlighted effect and keeping the skin clean with the lightest touch of a baby pink blush.

A bright red is a fun option for a nighttime look, and you can quickly balance the striking hue with a neutral smokey eye. Line your eyes for definition and stick to black and neutral hues like brown and mauve for your eyeshadows. For blush, a pink shade that leans a little red will bring your skin back to life while complementing your lip.

Red lip tint

Having a soft spot for lip tints can mean that you like makeup that's fuss-free. So to spice up your tinted lip a little, swipe peachy blush on your cheeks and keep everything else minimal. Just plain mascara on the eyes and a bit of highlighter will do just fine!

For a dark red lip, don't be afraid to be dramatic with your eyes. Try your hand at false lashes and make them long to give your eyes a cat-like effect. Do your usual cat eyes and make your brows stronger than usual to balance everything out!

Dark Purple lipstick

Serve a different take on the vampy purple lip by taking it easy on the eyes. Instead of a dramatic smokey eye, line your waterline with a white eyeliner to look more awake. However, filling in your brows darker is still recommended for a well-balanced look. On the cheeks, a nude color without a strong trace of pink is a sure match to this understated bold makeup.

Terracotta lipstick

An orange or terracotta lip may be a new trend on the scene, but it doesn't mean that it's difficult to pull off. Make the most out of the warm-toned theme that this color gives by defining your cheeks with a nude orange blush, and then highlight using a golden shade instead of silver. Finish off with a contoured cheekbone and a few coats of mascara for a fun take on the beach babe look!
