South Korea is often referred to as the "plastic surgery capital of the world." According to a study, out of a thousand patients who go under the knife, about 68% do the double-eyelid surgery. It is the most popular procedure done by Koreans to achieve doll-like, bigger-looking eyes.
That said, while opting for plastic surgery is not something to be looked down on (your body, your rules!), there are still those who prefer to embrace their natural features. In fact, there's a growing list of Korean actresses who are making a case for having beautiful monolid eyes sans crease or hood. These stunning stars have also been showing us countless of ways to have fun with makeup to make those monolids stand out even more!
Below, a list of beautiful K-drama actresses who are rocking their monolid eyes:
1. Kim Go Eun
The Goblin and The King: Eternal Monarch star is one of Korea's most famous monolid beauties. In a 2016 interview, Kim Go Eun once opened up about how she almost went under the knife before she debuted as an actress. She was asked if she ever felt self-conscious about her monolids and she confessed, "I thought about undergoing double eyelid surgery before my debut. I ended up not doing it, and I think I made the right decision." She also added that she has "no plans to get eyelid surgery" and that she likes her monolids.
2. Park So Dam
Park So Dam, most known for her role in the Academy Award-winning movie Parasite and the recently concluded K-drama Record of Youth, is often compared to her former schoolmate and fellow actress Kim Go Eun because both have monolid eyes. She also has similar views when it comes to plastic surgery and loves how her small eyes make her look unique. She said, "I think my charm is having an appearance that is different from everyone else. I never thought about plastic surgery."
3. Kim Da Mi
Kim Da Mi rose to fame after starring in Itaewon Class and making a strong impression as the feisty yet headstrong leading lady Jo Yi-seo with dip-dyed blonde locks. Just this year, the actress headlined a Cosmopolitan photoshoot for Benefit Cosmetics looking gorgeous in every angle while wearing fun makeup looks that highlight her charming monolid eyes.
4. Lee Som (Esom)
Esom, who initially debuted as a fashion model in 2018, has been steadily establishing herself as an actress with dramas such as Because This Is My First Life and The Third Charm, as well as the movie Scarlet Innocence. Equipped with more than just her tall height and modelesque figure, Esom continues to captivate more fans with her unique beauty and facial features, particularly her high cheekbones and monolid eyes.
5. Jung So Min
Esom's fellow Because This Is My First Life star, Jung So Min, used to be a target for plastic surgery rumors. The actress has since denied them, while also noting that there's nothing wrong with plastic surgery and girls who just "want to look prettier." Whatever's the case, we think she's one of the prettiest K-drama actresses who effortlessly make monolid eyes look really attractive.
