Fun fact: according to Medium, South Korea accounts for about 20% of the world market for men’s cosmetics! This means annual sales of more than $1 billion, courtesy of a mere 25 million men (this figure is expected to inflate by 50% over the next five years, btw). Another fun fact: last December, a Korean talk show called Lipstick Prince started airing on SK channel OnStyle, where male celebrities and personalities dish about makeovers, skin care, and pretty much anything beauty-related. How's that for challenging gender roles?
Whether they're actors or idols, these Korean men prove that boys can definitely wear makeup, too. Below, five of our K-wave crushes and the beauty looks we'd love to steal from them.
1. Wonwoo of Seventeen
Wonwoo's known for his red carpet makeup, but his stare's on point even on off days, too! Cop the Seventeen member's pap-snap worthy look by smudging black pencil liner on your upper lash line, then dragging the color to the outer corners of your eyes.
2. Baekhyun of EXO
If there was even an iconic male idol look, it'd be Baekhyun's burgundy smolder! The EXO cutie's got us all over the crimson beauty trend, although we're not quite sure we can pull it off as well as he does. (Fun fact number three: he played the 10th prince in the historical drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo!)
3. Jungkook of BTS
Jungkook's promotion photos for the BTS song Wings is giving us major inspo to don a softer version of the classic smokey eye. Replace your black or gray shadow with a gold-flecked brown, then dust on your lids and just below your eyes. Concentrate pigment on the crease for added depth!
4. Lee Joon Gi
The lead star of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo's most distinctive features are his sharp graze and almond-shaped eyes, so he's done good bringing it out with precise strokes of liquid liner and a touch of matte brown shadow. (Also, would you look at that highlight!? Peg.)
5. Lee Jong Suk
Here's something you can try even on a work day! The W star's super-subtle look needs only a light sweep of creamy bronze eyeshadow stick on the lower lash line, plus a barely-there hint of peach shadow on the lids.
