Katy Perry asked for the "perkiest" ponytail her hairstylist had ever created for her performance at the Super Bowl.
The "Dark Horse" hitmaker had her hair pulled back into a thick and glossy pony by hair stylist Clyde Haygood ahead of her gig during the half-time break in the NFL final and he's revealed how he created the flawless look without making it uncomfortable.
He said, "Katy specifically asked for the perkiest pony you've ever seen!"
Clyde explained that he constructed the hairpiece by using a human hair ponytail and attaching various lengths of hair sewn into the inside and outside for extra bounce and volume.
Ensuring it didn't strain the 30-year-old star's head, he sewed an elastic band to the base on the inside of the pony and attached a toggle closure so it could open and close around her own hair.
Katy's trusted stylist then separated the hair into five three-inch sections and used a two-inch iron to create S-shaped waves before spraying each individual curl with KMS California Freeshape 2-in-1 Styling and Finishing Spray.
To complete the up-do he slicked back the raven-haired beauty's locks with gel, attached the pony to her head and smoothed flyways with a touch of wax.
Meanwhile, makeup artist Jake Bailey opened up about the pressure of keeping Katy's maquillage perfect for her once-in-a-lifetime performance.
He explained that he opted to go with a "classic Katy look—elongated cat eyes, lots of mascara, super sparkly gold and silver glitter, a bold red lip for glamour and showmanship".
For her eyeliner Jake used CoverGirl's Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Black Onyx and painted an adhesive just above the line before adding gold and silver glitter.
Perfecting Katy's luscious lips, he applied CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lip Liner in Hot followed by the brand's Colorlicious Lipstick in Seduce Scarlet and a "tiny dollop" of their Lip Lava in Mauva Lava.
