Guess what month it is. No, the answer isn't simply October. On this tenth month of 2008, Estée Lauder Philippines has prepared a line-up of activities and events for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month's theme—“World Pink. World Without Breast Cancer. Wear a Pink Ribbon. Make A Difference.”—is a global effort by the Estée Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) campaign. Spearheaded by Evelyn H. Lauder, the cosmetic company's Senior Corporate Vice President, the campaign aims to educate women worldwide about the importance of early detection (survival rate in localized breast cancer rises to 98% when detected early enough).

The BCA also helps to raise funds for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, an independent, non-profit organization also founded by Evelyn H. Lauder. The Foundation supports scientists and academic medical centers worldwide that are conducting promising research towards prevention and a cure.

The Philippines is one of about 60 countries that will be participating in raising awareness for this illness in October 2008. Read on to know what will be happening locally.

Pink Products

This month, you'll be able to spot the BCA's pink acrylic stands and pink ribbons on the counters of participating brands (Estée Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, ADF, and Origins). The Estée Lauder Pink Ribbon High Gloss will also be available. Not only does it give lips a natural, just bitten flush, part of the proceeds goes to raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Painting in Pink

On October 17 and 18, the Estée Lauder World Pink Art Gallery will open featuring the works of young artists—Jhun Alfon, Carlo Magno, Jake Catah, Celso Pepito, Loreto Racuya, Hermes Alegre, and Blaine San Juan. It will be a celebration of Women through the Arts and proceeds from the exhibit will be given to the Breast Cancer Foundation. For more information, please email Style Bible at

Pink at the Peninsula

The Peninsula Manila has tied-up with the Rustan's Group of Companies and Estée Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for the whole month of October as well.

“This October, we want to encourage our guests to order a pink-themed pastry or drink and help us spread our awareness message,” said Vlad Reyes, General Manager of The Peninsula Manila.

Pink-themed promotions will be served at The Lobby and The Bar of the esteemed hotel and a percentage of the sales will be donated to Bosom Buddies, a local foundation that shares the same mission.
