Styling short cuts from a hairstylist.

Everybody loves the lob, but does the lob love you? Sometimes it isn't so easy to style, especially for different hair types and thicknesses, but one look always saves the short-haired girl's day: the slick back. For times when that one strand just doesn't want to cooperate with the rest, when you're extra frizzy or your colored locks have yet to be washed, slicking it back is the lob's version of a ponytail, only more chic.

Hairstylist Mycke Arcano tells us how to do it like a pro:

Step 1: Pick a part

"Choose if you want to do a side part, center part, or just slicked back before applying any product," he shares.

Step 2: Section off

"Section the top part of your hair from the crown area," Mycke says. For an easy sectioning, put up the top layer of your hair into a half pony to reveal the lower half of your hair. "Apply product on the sides by the ear and going back." He says that unless you prefer an all-day hold, a hair cream will suffice. If not, use a water-based gel.

Step 3: Finishing touches

Mycke adds, "To avoid flaking, don't apply too much product. The best way to slick a bob is by using water based gels and finishing it ff with a shine mist or matte hairsprays." A shine mist will create a wet look that stays, while matte hairspray will give you a more casual finish.
