As if you just stepped out of the salon.

Ever seen Clueless and sighed at how perfect Cher Horowitz's hair flip is? Like many of her real-life counterparts, she probably troops to the salon at a special, before-hours appointment to make it on time for school or shopping armed with a shiny blow-dry. Like many of us, however, we have only about half an hour, our hair dryers, and our bathroom mirror to deal with. That said, here's how to DIY your hair à la Cher.

HEATLESS DRYING

Get that salon blow-dry, arm cramps aside.

1. Shirt-Dry

Use a shirt to dry off the same way you would with a towel. The shirt's smooth texture eliminates kinks.

2. Section Off

To achieve the self-dry feat, remember this rule: Divide and conquer. Clip your hair into neat sections and dry from the bottom part-up.

3. Pull Down

The key to frizz-free: Wrap hair around a large barrel brush and pull down as you pass the dryer over it, making sure the air is also targeted downward.

CHOOSING A HAIR DRYER SETTING

Pick your hair's poison:

1. Level 1-2

Pros: Low heat, less damage

Cons: Slower drying time

2. Level 3

Pros: Faster drying, easier styling

Cons: Sensitive scalps burn

3. Cooling

Pros: No damage

Cons: Does not work for styling

4. Diffuser

Pros: Adds shine and volume; less airflow means less frizz

Cons: Extra slow drying time
