Holiday Beauty Looks To Try

Because now is not the time to be shy.
Holiday Beauty Looks To Try Because now is not the time to be shy.

Can you believe we’re already halfway through December? Christmas Eve may still be a few days away, but as early as now we're already being bombarded with a flurry of invitations to various get-togethers. It is the season to be merry and if there’s one thing you should know about fashion girls, it’s that we take the festivities seriously. Picking out the perfect outfit takes up most of our time, but let’s not forget the importance of hair and makeup that could both make or break the look you’ve spent hours putting together.

You’ve been sporting the no-makeup makeup look all year-round, but Christmas only happens once a year so do yourself a favor and try something new, will you please?

This Christmas, Sleek is Chic

The Balm En Root Hair Shine Serum and Hair Spray

We get it, your motto when it comes to your prized crowning glory has been "the messier, the sexier." Volume, curls, and scrunched up with dry shampoo is your go-to ‘do. But this Christmas, we urge you to surprise everyone by tidying up for a change. Whether you want it up in a classy low pony or down with your hair behind your ears, a bit of serum and hair spray will be all you’ll need.

TIP: Please don’t try to add volume to areas like your bangs or the upper half and stick to sleek-ifying it all the way down—think less of the poofy ‘60s, ‘70’s or ‘80s. It’s almost 2015, after all.

Shine Shadow

Laura Mercier Smoky Suede Eye Colour Palette

Add some sparkle into your twinklers via a mix of gunmetal shades. Leave the gold for your shoes, accessories, or nails and go for the silver for a stronger smolder.

Application tips from Laura Mercier: Use the Crème Eye Colour Brush to apply Graphite Suede Eye Colour to intensify, beginning at the lash line and ending halfway up the eye lid to the crease. Blend and blur to avoid harsh lines.

Green Means Go

Prestige Cosmetics Total Intensity eyeliner in daring green, P375; Total Intensity eyeshadow in Hocuspocus and Hypnotized, P545 each at The Beauty Bar

Go for it, girls! When else can you use those lovely emerald eye shadow you've been saving? Unless you're planning to go as Poison Ivy for the next three Halloweens, we suggest you put to use your green tools by creating a playful eye look. If the dramatic focus will be on your peepers, keep the rest of your pretty face on the neutral.

TIP: When playing around with colors, make sure the products you are using are heavily pigmented. This simply means you don't need more than a few swipes to get the intense color you are going for. Otherwise, the color will just fall down and give you green racoon eyes.

Double the Liner

Benefit Cosmetics, They're Real Push Up Liner

Give your feline flick a rest and go for an almost straight bar. Double dose it for a thick line that will define your laser beam stare.

TIP: Achieve this look by using either the liquid or gel variety.

Ombre-fy Your Pouts

Chanel Rouge allure in pirate, P1650; MAC lipstick in runner, P1000

Your lips can go ombre, too! Give your favorite red pouts an upgrade by mixing two shades of the fiery hue for an unexpected but delightful twist.

TIP: Start by swiping the brighter red shade onto your pouts and then adding a layer of the darker plum lippie around the edges. Blend well with a lip brush so you don't look like you made a mess.

At least give them a try over the weekend or at night before saying no. Don't be afraid of what the Grinches of the world will say, because they can't kill your buzz if you don't allow them to.
