Even though it's been full steam ahead with the wellness trend these last few years, quite a few still have been resisting the pull of a more health-conscious lifestyle. They dabble, yes, but have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into implementing more intense practices. For some, amending their diet is the hardest thing about adapting a cleaner, greener change; for others, injecting regular exercise into their routine is nearly impossible.

To inch your way into wellness, try these simple, everyday steps:

• Drink a glass of water with a lemon slice upon waking each morning. The citric acid converts to alkaline upon hitting your system, neutralizing your stomach's acid content. Whenever hyperacidity strikes, consider this natural method before popping an antacid.

6-8 glasses of water are essential in lubricating your system and keeping organs nourished, especially during the warmer months.

• Stock up on green, leafy veggies. The greener the vegetable, the higher the vitamin and mineral content, making it healthier for the body. Spinach, moringa (malunggay) and mungo beans are considered superfoods for their high nutrient content (Ed's note: if uric acid is an issue, boil beans in water and rinse before eating).

Wheatgrass, whether in natural or supplement form, is great for detoxifying the kidneys and liver.

• Make one day a week a meat-free day—tofu with teriyaki sauce is a delish, filling substitute for your regular ham or chicken sandwich.

• Do some gentle yoga or meditation in the morning every day. When your stamina increases, inject 15, then 30, then 45 minutes of cardio into your morning workouts to melt away fat and keep burning calories throughout the day. Pilates, jogging, and other forms or aerobic exercises also help!

• Add ½ cup of oatmeal to regular pancake batter to keep blood sugar levels at an even keel and to prevent rollercoaster food cravings.

• Substitute sugar cereal, like your regular bowl of Fruit Loops, with something healthier and richer in bran—it's less fattening and its high fiber content facilitates waste elimination.

• Whenever a food craving occurs, try grabbing a slice of fruit rather than a bar of chocolate or a handful of chips.

• Women's bodies crave less protein during that time of the month—instead of weight-lifting, double up on your cardio to release PMS-battling endorphins and snack on some asparagus to prevent bloating.

• Keep in touch with your Maker and have an attitude of gratitude.
