High profile breakups always get people talking. So when celebrity heavyweight John Lloyd Cruz was revealed as the newest endorser for Head and Shoulders, it left the beauty industry—as host for the event Sam YG aptly stated—scratching their heads wondering why the actor decided to make the switch (John Lloyd had previously been associated with rival brand, Clear).
The main reason he said was that he needed to further address his problems with hair. "Malaki talaga yun problema ko with falling hair," the actor shared. "To tell you frankly, malaki talaga yun tulong ng variant nito sa problem ko (John Lloyd revealed that he actually began using the brand months before he signed the deal). Siguro hindi kasi alam ng karamihan na ang number one cause ng hairfall ang dandruff."
The introduction to the P&G manufactured brand came as a suggestion by his friend and former co-star, Angel Locsin. Now six years strong as an endorser, Angel likened finding the right shampoo to finding the right kind of man—tedious but rewarding. “Especially sa aming mga kababaihan, hindi siya vanity. Kung maganda kasi ang hair mo, kung confident ka, mas magshi-shine ka.”
The new Head and Shoulders variants were released to address gender-specific problems—a move that has been a first for the brand. While For Him conditions shorter hair and targets sebum build-up, For Her coats strands to address hair breakage. And despite all confusion and speculation, in the end, John Lloyd was confident in his decision. He says, "I am a happy man. I couldn't be happier with Head and Shoulders!"
