Who would have thought that Happy Skin's founder Rissa Mananquil-Trillo was once callled an "ugly duckling"? In her new book, Read My Lips (P450), she shared that she was teased a lot for her morena skin. "When I got to high school, my classmates started picking on me for my looks and skin color," she revealed in her memoir.

However, even when the teasing got worse, Rissa was never disheartened. In fact, she became even more determined. "I guess after receiving so many labels about how I looked, what I did was not only to accept those names and labels," she wrote. "I also chose to transcend them." Hence, the birth of her local beauty brand, Happy Skin—made for Filipina skin.
