MAC Cosmetics’ newest collaboration couldn’t come at a more appropriate time of the month. With makeup special effects wizard Rick Baker (Planet of the Apes, Michael Jackson’s Thriller) as the focal point of the new collection, he brings his movie magic to MAC by designing three special looks: The Bride, Day of the Dead, and Zombie. What’s amazing is that you can achieve all three looks at home using just makeup!
For those who really want to get into it, you can recreate the looks at home and upload your renditions directly onto Instagram using the hashtag #MACmonsters plus the look you recreated (#TheBride, #DayoftheDead, #Zombie) or you can upload the look onto www.macrickbaker.com.
The winning look will be chosen on Halloween by Rick Baker himself!
Ready to bring out your inner monster?
LOOK 1: THE BRIDE
Keys to the look: Bold and defined eyes paired with dark lips against pale white skin with the illusion of stitches on both sides of the face
The Method: Use a medium coverage foundation of two to three shades lighter than your skin tone to create a pale canvas. Define the eyes with a dusting of green eye shadow on entire lid and contour with a dark brown shadow, concentrating on the outer corners of the eyes. Rim the upper and lower lashlines with a black kohl pencil and smudge for a more smoked out effect. Fill in the brows with a dark brown pencil for a stronger shape. Finish the look with a matte currant lipstick.
Stitches on skin: Black and currant liners can be used to recreate the wound and stitches.
LOOK 2: DAY OF THE DEAD
Keys to the look: Graphic shapes with solid and saturated colors on a white face
The Method: Use the Pure White Chromacake to cover the entire face and set with loose powder. To create the shapes, graph them out using a black eyeliner and fill them in by using acrylic paint. After adding color to the look, go over the black lines with a black liquid liner for sharp outlines.
Look 3: The Zombie
Keys to the look: Deep shadowing against pale and freckled skin.
The Method: Cover face with a full coverage foundation that’s two shades lighter than your skin tone. Using the Dirt Monster FX, drip the liquid from the hairline and spatter it across the face. Create shadows using the black and white Paintsticks and finish off with setting powder to set the look. Draw in the teeth using a black liquid liner for a more graphic effect.
