Hair coloring and heat styling are usually the main culprits for damaged locks. The use of hair dye or bleach dries out the hair with its harsh chemicals, while heat styling basically fries our locks overtime. Which is why, if it's healthy hair we want, we typically avoid doing these altogether. But what we don't know is that there's more to that story than we're often told.
Surprisingly, our hair can still be prone to damage even without exposure to hair dye and heat styling tools. And the things that cause this might not even be on your watchlist yet. Keep scrolling to find out what they are!

1. Pollution
Pollution is a health hazard through and through. In fact, even our hair isn't safe from it. "Pollution contains microparticles that strip away the hair's natural layers, making it weak and vulnerable to damage," says Unilever Philippines Hair R&D Dani De Leon.
2. Sweat
Yup, even sweat isn't all that harmless. In addition to washing off any trace of freshness from our tresses, it dulls its shine and texture as well. Dani explains, "Sweat contains a lot of salt that draws out moisture from the hair [and] leaves it dry and rough."
3. Product build-up
Washing our hair can feel like a chore for sure, but skipping shampoo for too long will eventually show some unwanted effects. Product will build up on your scalp and strands, which will make the hair flat, limp, and dry. So even if your dry shampoo can keep it shine-free for a few days, you shouldn't abuse its powers.
How to Fix It
Now that we know what damages our hair, let's move on to how we can nurse it back to health. According to TRESemmé hair professional Henri Calayag, giving your hair a good detox helps it fight the major aggressors mentioned above. Here's the hair care routine he recommends:

1. Shampoo twice.
When your locks are feeling extra dry and dirty, give it a deep and thorough wash. Henri suggests shampooing twice for this, focusing product on the scalp where we have the most build-up. His pick for this step is TRESemmé's new Detox & Nourish Shampoo for its mild formulation that'll detoxify your hair naturally. It contains green tea, an ingredient known for its antioxidant properties, and ginger root that soothes, moisturizes, and protects the hair from irritation.

2. Deep condition.
The first step will definitely strip a bit of moisture off your hair, so you should remedy that immediately with conditioner. TRESemmé's Detox & Nourish Conditioner also has green tea and ginger extracts that will restore your hair's health and give it that stunning shine. This line of products also has a treatment mask you can use at least once a week for extra health. Take note that these products don't contain parabens and dyes!
