Similar to skincare, the rule of thumb with hair care is to tailor it to your specific needs. This way, you're not just washing and drying your tresses but also paving the way for their healthiest version yet.

Hair Care Routine for Dry, Frizzy Hair

Thanks to the hot and humid weather, we just can't help but use harsh products to effectively wash away oil and sweat—even if they strip our locks of moisture in the process. The dehydration and frizz that this gives our hair, however, doesn't make it worth it. While we obviously can't change our weather, we can change the products in our hair care routine. Below is our four-step guide to bringing dry and frizzy hair back to health:

Step 1: Shampoo/Dry Shampoo

If you prefer to wash your hair daily, alternating between a cleansing shampoo and a mild moisturizing one will keep your locks and scalp fresh without overdrying them. Look for formulas enriched with nourishing plant oils and keratin for a boost of moisture and repair. For your milder shampoo option, opt for ones without or at least low in sulfates.

Dry hair can also be caused by overwashing, so try washing your strands only every other day and see how it affects its condition. Doing this could have you dealing with an oily scalp on day two, but that's nothing a few spritzes of dry shampoo on the roots can't solve.

Step 2: Conditioner

Conditioner locks in moisture, which also helps prevent hair frizz. Don't apply too much, though—only use an exact amount that's enough to lightly cover the lengths and tips of your strands. And then, leave it on for a few minutes (or one minute if you're in a hurry) before rinsing it off.

Step 3: Hair Mask/Treatment

Masking dry locks at least twice a week gives it an opportunity to replenish the moisture it lacks gradually. It's your best alternative to a salon treatment and the next best thing to conditioner. When masking, always start with freshly-cleansed locks and make sure to wait for at least 30 minutes (or however long the product instructions recommend) to let your strands soak everything in.

Step 4: Hair Serum/Leave-in Conditioner

Post-shower hair care gets a bad rep for making your tresses greasy, but for this hair type, that'll rarely be the case. Serums, oils, and leave-in conditioners won't only moisturize your strands but will also help tame frizz and add shine. Note that these are best applied on damp hair and before heat styling!
