You know the drill: Summer comes upon us and while we’re all psyched for a romp on the shores, we also know the toll the heat takes on our hair—a concern which weighs even more when you realize that direct sunlight doesn’t just damage your locks, it also makes it hard to put on any form of makeup to distract from your mane’s foibles. Your hair is your crowning glory and that comes to the fore most during the summer.

Fortunately, beaches and bad hair days need not mix. At the recently concluded Unilever Personal Care Summit in picturesque Pangalusian Island in Palawan, Overall Hair Expert for Personal Care Lourd Ramos showed us several tricks and must-do’s for the season. Present was Brand Council member for TRESemmé, fresh-faced girl next door, top model, and role model Kelly Misa, who was on hand to show off a chic, low side bun crafted by Lourd himself.

To start, this hairstyle works well with textured, even wavy hair. Braid locks and leave for a few hours if you want to fake a moderate wave. Otherwise, run locks through a waving iron for that beachhead texture.

When the preparation is done, section hair into two at the base of the neck. Then gather one side and roll it around in a bun. Take the remaining section and wrap it around this bun like a hair tie, then pin in place with bobby pins at the junction between the hair and neck.

Finish off by spritzing with TRESemmé hairspray—a must-have for summer, as its lightweight formula won’t weigh hair down. Secondly, its compact size is perfect to throw into your tote, to be brought anywhere you travel.

When all is done and it’s time to cleanse and condition strands, reach for Creamsilk’s various post-washes, most notably its Treatment Conditioner. Lourd advises rinsing one’s hair in the shower, twisting around the hair, and working the post-wash into the tips instead of the roots, as this will be the area where the product takes most effect. Then comb the product through with a wide-toothed wooden comb, wait a couple of minutes, then rinse off. The effect is soft and manageable hair, as achieved by this clever new post-wash, which combines the speed of a conditioner with the potency of a hair treatment.
