According to makeup artist Fanny Serrano, there's more to a local teleserye than just its plot. Producers should pay closer attention to the actors' overall appearance on-screen, specifically their hair, makeup, and clothes. He goes into detail about this in a Facebook post published last May 26, in which he called out local TV networks like GMA and ABS-CBN.
Please naman," the makeup artist writes.
Citing some mistakes he has noticed in shows, Fanny says that producers should make sure that an actor's looks match the scene and character they're playing, since it'll otherwise be distracting for the audience.
However, Fanny stresses that the glam teams are not to blame for these incidents, and that not all TV shows make these mistakes.
The makeup artist also shares that he has walked out on celebrities who only cared about looking good on camera instead of portraying their role accurately through their styling—"Hanggang sa minsan ay nagwo-walk out ako dahil mismo yung artistang pinahahawakan sa akin ay hindi rin naiintindihan ang kanyang role at feeling nya ay basta lagi syang maganda para daw sa mga fans nya kahit ang role nya [ay] tindera lang sa palengke."
He then says that this kind of attention to detail is the reason he enjoys content from Korea and Japan more. In succeeding posts, he even shared a few examples from these shows and movies to prove his point.
Thereafter, the makeup artist calls for these TV networks to change their ways.
Fanny's post immediately sparked a conversation in the comments and was shared by PEP. A few days later, he shared that a teleserye producer from GMA has noted his concern and their boss has called a meeting for makeup artists and stylists about it.
