After spotting these five ladies wearing colored contacts at the Preview Best Dressed Ball 2011, we started noticing the trend quickly spreading to some of Manila's most fashionable. So we decided to dig deeper and ask a few beauty experts about the appeal of a change in eye hue.
Shu Uemura Makeup Artist Claire Seelin-Diokno shed some light about the beauty of a quick application of lenses, "Colored contacts can change your [makeup] look and you can control whether the change is dramatic or subtle," she told us. "Different contact colors will help certain eye shadow colors stand out. Amethyst will soften browns, green will complement amber and orange beautifully. Grey and blue bring out dark smokey eyes and hazel brightens our yellow and olive skin tones."
TV Host and model Bianca Valerio concured saying, "Colored contacts, like makeup, hair or clothing can bring life to any look! It not only makes the eyes appear larger but it also allows you to have fun with your look without resorting to plastic surgery. What makes it fun is you can match your lenses to your preferred color palette for that day or for special occassions."
While most women we've seen wearing the trend have seemed to gravitate towards a murky grey, more fearless ladies prove that going brighter equals bigger impact. Anne Curtis wore a pair of sapphire lenses for the Folded and Hung fragrance campaign, Bubbles Paraiso went emerald at the Philippine Fashion Ball and Liz Uy had striking violet eyes on the cover of Preview January-February 2011. But before you jump headfirst into the trend, Claire left us with some words of caution, "Just be careful where you buy your contacts because these are not ophthalmologist approved." This is especially important because as she reminded us, we only get one pair of eyes in our lifetime!
