As Nars makeup artist Michael Hanz will tell you, bringing your daily makeup look from day to night is easier than you think. (This from an artist who's worked with the Nars team on the runway looks of Marc Jacobs and Thakoon!) With the normal working woman's schedule leaving little time for pampering, we often get stuck in a beauty rut, turning to the usual look time and time again. But with summer here and brights enticing us from every corner, we turned to Michael to show us how to play up a muted day look to an amped up aqua smokey.
Michael was in town for a few days for the launch of the first Nars boutique in Manila, which is located in Glorietta right by the back entrance of Rustan's. We were lucky enough to co-host a special makeup workshop with him and his warm personality immediately won us over!
In attendance to soak in Michael's insider tips were beauty mavens Rima Otswani, Candy Dizon, Rosanna Ocampo-Rodriguez, Christine Daez, Ruby Gan, Twitter followers Zarah Hernaez and Valorie Marie, as well as a trio of pink-lipped ladies—Stacy Rodriguez in pale mauve, Bibai Gaisano in sheer fuschia and Charina Sarte in a candy-coated peony.
Incidentally, the Nars summer collection includes what most will probably consider the holy grail of matte pink lippies called Carthage, a rosier version of the highly coveted Schiap. While stocks are still finding their way to the stores in June, we spotted a number of the ladies jotting their names down in the growing reservation list (we suggest you do the same!)
Sharing ingenious tricks we've never heard before (like the "tightline technique") and tips on how to work shadow on Asian eyes (note the very wearable layered shadows on the lids of his model for the day, May May Tan) and color into your look, we captured Michael on film to give you all-access to the wealth of makeup expertise he shared.
