We've all seen the strange beauty trends that have existed throughout the years, we never thought that dolphins would eventually become a beauty icon. Apparently, for both celebrities and makeup artists alike, the shiny and wet skin of the mammal peeking out of the waves is now the vibe. So whether you are looking for the perfect summer vibe or an au naturale makeup look, "dolphin skin" could be the way to give yourself a healthier and more radiant glow.
What is "dolphin skin"?
Dolphin skin is essentially how you would imagine your skin to look like right after a quick dip in the pool. The trend is characterized by a wet, glassy, and silky smooth appearance, just like a dolphin's!
The term has been making waves online for a while, but it was made even more popular on Instagram by Mary Philips, who's the makeup artist of both Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber. She tried the look on Hailey once for a photoshoot and it instantly became a crowd-favorite for its radiant rosy glow!

While the trend sounds similar to glass skin, dolphin skin is focused on makeup than skincare. It's all about achieving a luminous complexion through your base products—like by applying highlighter strategically, for example. The trend is also perfect for those living in the tropics as the dewy look creates the perfect radiant complexion when we are susceptible to sweat and shine!
How do you achieve the "dolphin skin" look?
1. Prep your skin with right skincare.
The first key to achieving dolphin skin is exfoliation, which helps remove dead skin cells in order to reveal smoother skin underneath. After, use a hydrating sheet mask to really bring out that healthy sheen. Finally, prep your skin with a serum or moisturizer with a dewy finish so your skin appears to glow from within.

2. Build your dewy base.
One you finish your skin prep with hydrating and luminous products, it’s time to amp up the look with makeup to keep things glowy. Start with using a lightweight primer with illuminating pearls to add luminosity, and the layer a liquid or cream foundation on top for tone-evening coverage. If you're using powder, focus the product on your T-zone so you won't dull the shine!

3. Add some dolphin shine.
Next, add some dolphin dew by applying highlighter on all the high points of the face. This includes the bridge of the nose, area between the brows, temples, cheekbones, and chin.
That said, the key to this look is making sure that the highlighter you choose does not have any glitter. Since you want to create a more "wet" shine, try to avoid powder highlighters and experiment with stick, cream, and liquid highlighters instead. As a finishing touch, some makeup artists like topping the highlighter with clear balm or even gloss to get that highly-coveted dolphin shine.
