Crazy For Color

Crazy For Color M.A.C.'s upcoming makeup collections don't hold back.

We've been seeing a splurge of fantabulous prints and patterns on the fashion runways lately and are ecstatic to see that beauty is taking notes. Although A/W 2008 was admittedly gorgeous with all its black and Lanphear-esque punk, all that somberness has made that reverse burst of color this S/S 09 like a breath of fresh air. We can afford not to take ourselves too seriously this season, and we're taking advantage. It's time to enjoy all those crazy trends—life is short, and the summer is even shorter!

M.A.C. Cosmetics, ever on the trend forefront and a backstage staple at the hottest runways, has just released their two latest collections for Manila's post-summer season. For June, hear women roar with Style Warrior (Ed's note: we're kind of loving the name), an exotic collection that takes the global, tribal trend as its theme. Inspired by wild things from Africa to the Amazon, everything from the fierce animal print lip color packaging to the ethnic accents on the compacts explodes with boldness and eclecticism. Beauty without barriers is Style Warrior's motto, and as seen in the central shades of rich plums, bronzes and golds all rendered in the richest formulations (pearlized, metallic and mineralized), it seems like decadent diversity is going full throttle. Standouts in the range include the lipstick in Tribalist (a lush blackberry hue), the Gold Rebel Lipglass (sheer pearlized copper), powder eyeshadow in Vibrant Grape (bright purple), Refined Golden Bronzing Powder (soft gold) and their liquid shimmer highlighter, Lustre Drops, in Sun Rush (a universally-flattering peach bronze). They've also got primal fear versions for their loose powders, nail lacquers and even tinted sprays, guaranteed to keep your honey tans in top form.

July decidedly takes a softer approach than the wildness of the previous month, with an arty, boho premise taking the helm. Colour Craft, a trippy, geometric smorgasbord of brights, is one part flower-child, one part Jackson Pollack, and one part Peruvian princess. Inspired by the endless creativity of artists everywhere, the circus-like fuchsias, aquamarines, cobalt blues and coral reds altogether make a seriously fun palette to play with. When accented with tie-dyed formulations in their blushes, glosses and bronzers, it really gives you no reason not to embrace color. The new pinwheel design in their Mineralize Baked Eye Shadow, particularly stunning in Eccentricity (gold/lilac/plum/bronze) is a looker, as well as the psychedelic Mineralize Blush in Style Demon (warm brick red with copper streaks) and the lipstick in Made With Love (bright coral pink). The Lipglass in Eclectic Edge (violet swirls) reminded us of a lava lamp and good, good times. All-over powder highlighters–also in a painterly whorl–and precision-application brushes testify to the entire theme.

Be first in line when the items hit the stores, and on't bother choosing between animalistic or artful (trust us, it's impossible). Instead, welcome the color splash and just dive in.

Style Warrior Collection, available mid-June, and Colour Craft Collection, available mid-July, at M.A.C. Cosmetics, Rustan's.
