Creating a bulletproof look on oily skin is serious business. You can't just apply any product and call it a day, because if you do, you could end up with a full face of grease and melted makeup after a few hours. That's why to help you (literally) save face, we asked celebrity makeup artists to spill their must-haves for this skin type. Keep scrolling for a guide on the best makeup for oily skin!

Best Primer for Oily Skin

Aside from oil control, an effective primer for this skin type often minimizes the appearance of larges pores as well. This not only helps foundation glide easier, it also blurs unwanted texture for an airbrushed finish!

1. Nars Pore & Shine Control Primer

Mikka Marcaida, whose clients include Yassi Pressman and Anne Curtis, recommends this mattifying and pore-refining primer from Nars. Its unique silky texture makes it feel more like moisturizer than a primer, which is perfect if you prefer something lightweight underneath foundation.

2. Make Up For Ever Step 1 Mattifying Primer

For a smooth and shine-free canvas, Max Collins and Bianca Umali's makeup artist Rick Calderon swears by this primer. He says it helps control oily skin throughout the day especially during the summer. Paired with a matte foundation, he guarantees your complexion will be budgeproof!

3. Benefit Porefessional

The go-to MUA of Shaina Magdayao and Karylle, Jigs Mayuga, recommends the cult-classic that is the Benefit Porefessional. This primer has a flesh tint and a silicone texture that fills in large pores to minimize their appearance, so once foundation is applied, your skin looks smoother than ever. You can also use it in areas where your makeup tends to crease, because like with pores, it will fill the gaps for a smoother application.

Best Foundation for Oily Skin

The reality of having oily skin is that no matter the foundation you wear, your natural oils will still eventually come through. Hence, you have to find a base that can withstand your oil production without rubbing off. "Refrain from using cream-based, hydrating, and luminous foundations since these will trigger your natural oils," Rick advises.

1. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

"For foundation, I recommend a base that has medium coverage and dries to a matte finish," Jigs tells us, and the product that fits this description perfectly (and his favorite) is the Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup from Estée Lauder. This formula is such a staple in many makeup artists' kits that both Rick and Mikka think it's the best for oily skin as well. It's lauded for its impressive staying power on all skin types, making it a great option for brides.

2. Tom Ford Traceless Foundation SPF 15

For those who prefer a more natural finish, Rick recommends one of his recent finds—Tom Ford's Traceless liquid Foundation with SPF 15. "Its semi-matte finish helps the skin look very seamless while keeping the oil away," he explains. The sheer formula claims to provide nourishing yet undetectable coverage with a lightweight feel that won't overload slick skin.

3. Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Foundation

Need something extra budgeproof and full coverage? Check out the brand new formulation of Make Up For Ever's matte foundation that claims to last for up to 24 hours! Rick attests to this, telling us, "The waterproof and oil-free formula keeps your skin looking velvety matte for hours! This is perfect for this summer season!"

Best Concealer for Oily Skin

Not all concealers can withstand oil and keep your blemishes and dark circles hidden from view. That said, here are a few pro picks that do:

1. Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer

To effectively hide blemishes on this skin type, you need a creamy yet matte concealer that won't melt after a few hours—and Nars' Soft Matte Complete Concealer is exactly that. It's why Gabbi Garcia's makeup artist Jason delos Reyes loves it, too! "It sets on its own, has thin and velvety formula that makes it easy to blend. It's super pigmented and has a matte finish perfect for oily skin," he shares.

2. Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer

Makeup artist Laila Al-Harthy (who glams up Ylona Garcia and Mariel Padilla) thinks that this product is the perfect in-between of internet-favorites like the Tarte Shape Tape and Too Faced Born This Way concealers. According to her, the consistency is neither too thick nor too thin, so it won't feel too heavy on oily skin. She compliments the warm-toned shades of it, too, saying that it blends spectacularly on Filipina complexions that skipping foundation is an option.

Best Blush for Oily Skin

One would think that the blush that suits oily skin the most would be powder, but the pros actually recommend cream products for longwear. See their picks ahead:

1. Becca Beach Tint

"For cheeks, I use tints because it wears longer than powder," shares Rick, and Becca's Beach Tint is one of his favorites. Aside from the sheer and blendable formula that comes in flattering shades, this tint is also oil-free and smells delectably like fruit!

2. Benefit Benetint

A reco from both Jason is this watery, rose-tinted stain from Benefit. "It's really budgeproof, especially if you use your powder blush on top of it," says Jason.

3. Nars Matte Multiple

Jason also swears by Nars' multi-use Multiple sticks in the matte formula. "It's better than powder because it sets on its own," he explains. That said, this is a formula that doesn't require setting powder to last. You can check out the deep, contour shades as well for sculpting!

Best Setting Powder for Oily Skin

The step that'll lock in all your hard work and further keep shine at bay is applying a good layer of setting powder. Below, the pros tell us the staples in their kits for oily skin:

1. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

All the makeup artists we interviewed swears by this powder. It's sets your makeup without a white cast, blurs imperfections, and stops shine from overtaking your look. "It works for everyone," raves Laila. "I have the original shade and the dark one. I mix the two together to use on Ylona to get the perfect color for her."

2. Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Loose Powder

Don't be fooled by the cutesy packaging. This stuff works like a dream on oily faces according to Jason—"It can fill in your pores so that your makeup will last throughout the day with less oil. It's super lightweight, not cakey, plus, it smells like a real peach!"

3. RCMA No Color Powder

When she's not working with morena clients, Laila turns to the RCMA No Color Powder. Since it contains no fillers or pigments, it won't change the color of your makeup. Just make sure to use sparingly for a seamless look!

Best Highlighter for Oily Skin

"For oily skin I recommend placing powder highlighters [strategically] on the face. I apply it on top of the cheeks, nose bridge, and sides of the forehead," explains Jason. "Keep the center of your forehead and the sides of the nose and chin matte, because if not, you'll look oily instead of dewy." Try this technique with the products below:

1. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter

"Becca highlighters [give] more of a subdued, skin-like glow" Jason says, so he recommends this for those who prefer a natural look with their highlighters. It's very finely-milled so it won't add unncessary texture and slip to your face.

2. Pat McGrath Sublime Skin Highlighting Trio

If you love an intense glow, Jason recommends these domed powders from Pat McGrath Labs. Not only is it a steal with three baked highlighter shades, the colors are unique and versatile for all skin tones!
