Love local!

There was a time when it was quite a challenge to get good quality makeup from Pinoy beauty brands, because there weren't a lot of choices. Now, there are tons of proudly Pinoy brands that have elevated the local beauty industry, producing products that are not only fantastic, but also affordable.

If you're coming home to the Philippines for the holidays, take it as an opportunity to revisit familiar brands and make space for new ones in your luggage to take back with you as a little baon and pasalubong for your friends overseas. Below, we have listed down the 10 best local beauty brands you can support for a *little* taste of home:

1. SkinPotions

You might have seen SkinPotions on your Instagram feeds with their  adorable packaging and graphics. It's a proudly Pinoy brand that started in 2013 with a few organic skincare items. Fast forward to almost seven years later, the brand has expanded its line to include makeup items, too!

SkinPotions' Snowberry Cream Mask has been their bestseller since it was released in 2015. It's an all-in-one cream that fights pimples and lightens hyperpigmentation. It can also be used as a makeup primer to give your skin a smooth matte finish. This facial cream is best used if you have oily and acne-prone skin.

If you love multipurpose products and creating monochromatic looks, Colourette is your best bet. The brand began in 2015 and has since then opened up stores, kiosks, and stalls all over the country!

The brand has a lot of makeup products, but the Colourtints are still their bestsellers! They are oil-based tints that come in two finishes (fresh and matte). They recently debuted new packaging and 10 new shades in their lineup!

Try out their Minty Matte Stick Rouge if three-way products are your thing. It has the pigment of a matte lipstick with the moisturizing factor of a lip balm, and you can apply it on your lids, cheeks, and lips. It comes in six Pinay-friendly shades.

4. Happy Skin

Model, beauty columnist, and published author Rissa Mananquil-Trillo started Happy Skin in 2013 because she wanted to address the problem of Pinays who wanted to use makeup but were scared of their skin breaking out. She also wanted to make cosmetics that were budget-friendly but still high quality. Today, the brand is not only limited to makeup—they also have skin and nail care products!

If it's your first time buying from Happy Skin, you can't go wrong with their Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie. It's a lightweight lip crayon with an ultra-matte finish that is non-drying.

5. Sunnies Face

Ever since Sunnies Face entered the local beauty industry in 2018, their products have consistently sold out quickly. You can also guarantee that a long queue will appear outside their stores every time they have a new release. Their minimalist, cool-girl aesthetic, paired with their affordable prices are what makes them a hit with Pinay beauty junkies!

Their introductory product, the Fluffmatte Lipsticks, still remains as their bestseller. They are powder matte lippies that come in 15 universally-flattering shades, with colors ranging from reds, nudes, pinks, and berries.

6. Filipinta Beauty

Though they are the most indie brand in this list, Filipinta Beauty impressed us with their makeup products that are inspired by Filipino folklore and culture.

Their first-ever eyeshadow palette, Diwata, wowed us with its earthy tones and mix of matte and shimmer shades. You can create a natural lewk or a MOTD with fun pops of color with this one!

Being an established brand, Ever Bilena has an extensive lineup of products, but we believe that you should try Toast of New York, their bestselling Matte Lipstick shade. It's a pinkish-brown hue that suits all skin tones. The best part is its budget-friendly price tag!

ICYDK, Careline went through a major rebranding in 2017 with brand new products, packaging, and tagline. With the line "Better Than Basic," the brand promises to provide trendy and edgy cosmetics with the Pinay youth in mind, and they've surely delivered!

If you have to try one thing from their product lineup, it would have to be the Soft Suede Lipsticks. They have a creamy matte finish that's lightweight but pigmented. They currently have six nude shades for all skin tones.

9. Vice Cosmetics

If the name kind of sounds familiar, it's because this brand is owned by actor and comedian Vice Ganda! The makeup maven started Vice Cosmetics in 2017 as a way of honoring his mother. Now two years old, the brand has released several fantastic products and even a collaboration with BT21!

If you're in need of a compact setting powder, look no further than Vice Cosmetics' Duo Finish Foundation. It will give you that soft, airbrushed finish with medium to full coverage.
