With little choice for travel this year, we relied on different fragrances to take a momentary journey elsewhere. A spritz here and there gave us the mood boost we needed, the notes making each day feel less repetitive.
For this year's Preview Best of Beauty, we chose four scents that delivered something new to our static lives in quarantine and made us more hopeful for the times ahead. See them below, along with our full reviews:
Best Fragrances 2020
Fruity Floral: Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Shine
Dolce Shine is the sunny, energetic scent its bright yellow bottle makes it seem, with bursts of juicy mango and vibrant jasmine that evokes the first sight of the sun after winter.
Tester Review: "This perfume can easily be my 18-year-old self's signature perfume. It's citrusy, light, and fresh—easy to wear day in day out! Now, don't get me wrong, as a twenty-something gal, I'd love to wear this everyday, too. But I would reserve it for days when I need a little pick me up or a mid-day brightener. It loses a point for me, though, only because it doesn't last as long as I thought it would.—Steph Sison

Citrus: Chanel Les Eaux Paris - Riviera
The fragrances in Chanel's Les Eaux line were inspired by destinations beloved by Gabrielle Chanel herself. To represent the carefree charm of the French Riviera, they created this fresh citrus blend that features refreshing notes of Sicilian orange and neroli.
Tester Review: "I'd say that this scent smells of a very classic Chanel but with a light, citrusy twist. The brightness from the Sicilian orange and comforting neroli notes make it a perfect everyday spritz, while the hint of floral adds a romance to it that can easily transition the scent into night time. The hefty-sized bottle and its impressive longevity despite being an eau de toilette gives such good value for the price, too. Who needs to travel to the French Riviera if I can just channel its vibe with this instead?"—Nicole Arcano

Musk: Narciso Rodriguez for Her Pure Musc
Narciso Rodriguez puts the brand's signature musk on center stage in this fragrance, enhancing its finish with white florals and woods to add an elegance that makes it even more addictive.
Tester Review: "Narciso Rodriguez's Pure Musc looks deceivingly simple at first glance, but the scent is anything but. It's musky and powdery, a bit woody, and with that clean fresh-off-the-shower allure that lingers all day and adjusts to one's own body chemistry. It has floral notes albeit not too overpowering to be described as stereotypically a 'feminine' choice of perfume. The minimalist yet chic bottle says a lot about the fragrance itself: It's clean, unpretentious, and universally attractive."—Marj Ramos-Clemente

Floral: Tom Ford Rose Prick
Rose Prick gives us an olfactory tour of Tom Ford's private rose garden. A blend of spicy, peppery opening notes, patchouli, and Bulgarian rose and rose de mai at its heart, it's "a perfume so lovely it hurts."
Tester Review: "I was never a rose perfume type of person, but Rose Prick has easily changed my mind. It's not the overwhelming bouquet I usually expect from something of its kind, because the moment you put it on, you aren't just hit with a plain rose. Instead, it surprises with a spicy Sichuan pepper opening that's warm and inviting, luring you right in before it introduces the stars of the show: the Bulgarian rose and rose de mai at its heart. It's a scent that I'd definitely remember if I smelled it on someone else, so I'll be saving it for when I want to make a strong impression."—Nicole Arcano
