Our dermatologists probably won't take kindly to the fact that we wore foundation almost every day this year. But hey, we always double cleansed after... so perhaps we deserve a free pass? The state of our pores aside, our efforts weren't in vain. We successfully road-tested as many foundations as we could this year, giving rise to many standout formulas. It wasn't easy, but we narrowed down that list to 10 for your convenience. Read all about them below (save for our top pick from Preview beauty awards) and why these products could be worth your time and pennies:
Best Foundations in 2019
1. Laura Mercier Flawless Lumière Radiance-Perfecting Foundation
Best for: A skin-like finish
Laura Mercier's Flawless Lumière foundation has the kind of formula that any skin type could get on with. It has medium, buildable coverage that maintains a skin-like look, giving your skin a naturally radiant finish that doesn't look oily. Overall, it makes wearing dewy skin a little easier (read: possible) in humid weather.

2. Shiseido Synchro-Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation SPF 30
Best for: Everyday wear
The thing about wearing foundation all day is that it eventually starts feeling uncomfortable, and you just can't wait until it's time to take it off. That's not the case with the Syncro Skin, however, thanks to its "self-refreshing" formula that fuses with your skin instead of settling and caking.

3. NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation
Best for: Long-lasting coverage
This product is what we consider a party-proof foundation. The coverage can easily be built up to a full glam, but you can sheer it out with a damp sponge for a more natural look. Once it sets, it'll last you through long hours of sweating and oiling up with minimal fading, and even then, it will look almost as good as when you first applied it.

4. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Hydrating Longwear Foundation
Best for: Non-cakey coverage
A dry skin-friendly version of Fenty Beauty's internet-famous Pro Filt'r matte foundation dropped this year, and unsurprisingly, it's as much of a hit as the 2017 release. With nourishing ingredients like grapeseed oil and hyaluronic acid, it's perfect for fans of the original formula's seamless coverage and wear time but prefer a hydrating, skin-like finish over a matte one.

5. Perricone MD No Makeup Foundation Serum SPF 20
Best for: Skin-caring, undetectable wear
Perricone goes beyond skin-perfecting coverage with this product. Aside from a sheer veil that instantly evens out your skin tone, this foundation serum boosts your complexion with neuropeptides and daisy flower extract, which help address signs of aging and discoloration, respectively. It gives you all that in a flattering, semi-matte finish that's ideal for daily wear.

6. La Mer Long Wear Soft Fluid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20
Best for: A long-lasting glow
Wearing this foundation doesn't just feel like a treat—it looks like it, too. The Soft Fluid Long Wear is a makeup artist favorite for creating that post-skincare glow while refining the look of pores and evening out the skin tone. Don't be intimidated if you have oily skin, though. It holds up surprisingly well through the day and won't slide off in our weather.

7. Anastasia Beverly Hills Luminous Foundation
Best for: A wearable "glass skin" look
Your fear of wearing a dewy foundation will fade as soon as you try this formula from Anastasia Beverly Hills. Because even if it can give you a fresh, luminous finish, it won't highlight your pores or make you look overly greasy. Did we mention it's incredibly photo-friendly, too? But then again, we expected nothing less from Instagram's favorite makeup brand.

8. Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation
Best for: Mattifying and pore-blurring
Powder foundation might sound a little old school to some, but hear us out. Make Up For Ever has changed the game with this new-age formula that does exactly what you want your powder foundation to do—blur pores, mattify, and add supreme coverage—in a wearable, modern finish. The sponge it comes with is no plain latex either. The black side is designed to deposit maximum coverage, while the white side picks up only enough to quickly blot off shine.

9. Benefit Hello Happy Foundation
Best for: Natural-looking coverage
For you dry and combo-skinned ladies who need an everyday base, this new foundation from Benefit has a lightweight feel and a forgiving matte finish that looks like real skin, not makeup. With light buildable coverage, it's almost impossible to overapply this product.

10. Maybelline Superstay 24-Hour Foundation
Best for: Budgeproof matte skin
The foundation selection at the drugstore can be quite overwhelming, but this product stands out for its superior coverage and lasting power. It's the oily-skinned person's dream because it effectively controls shine and keeps imperfections covered for a full day, regardless of how hot it is. No wonder it was the best-selling drugstore base in the US in 2018.
