Beauty Lingo: Alpha Hydroxy Acid Reveal a smoother, more radiant you with these surface-renewing acids.

For our third installment of Beauty Lingo (we did two features on retinol and hyaluronic acid), we shine the spotlight on another anti-aging ingredient, alpha hydroxy acid, more commonly referred to as AHA. Used mainly as an exfoliant, this ingredient helps slough off dead skin cells without the extra rubbing that exfoliators call for. How? When you apply a product with AHA, it dissolves the dead skin cells and brings forth new layers of skin. It also acts as protection against UV and free radical damage that result in smoother skin with a refined texture!

Before you launch the gallery and take a gander at our favorite AHA products, extra precaution must be taken. Due to the exfoliating properties AHA possesses, the continuous resurfacing of new layers of skin produces a slight photosensitivity. That being said, stay out of the sun and wear a broad spectrum sunblock that filters out harmful UV damage. Ready? Now click on the photo gallery!
