When asked for their best kept secret, most models and celebrities will reveal a special miracle cream or perfect concealer that keeps them looking flawless. But in truth, the most important secret weapon behind any beauty is a talented makeup artist working with them backstage.
From beauty editorials to print ads to billboards, Jigs Mayuga is responsible for primping, preening, and painting the faces of some of Manila's most famous celebs.
Although always interested in the beauty pages of Vogue, Seventeen and YM as a teenager, fate brought Jigs to another path, working as a flight attendant for a few years. But bad luck struck as he was laid off during a particularly difficult time for the airline he worked for.
Taking his misfortune and turning it into an opportunity, he decided to rediscover his love for makeup artistry and enrolled in a cosmetology course at the Center for Aesthetic Studies in Makati. He was then hired by L'Oreal Philippines as a Makeup Artist/Counter Manager for Shu Uemura in 2005 then was quickly promoted to Chief Make Up Artist for L'Oreal Paris in 2006.
The snowball effect of his success led him to pursue further studies, completing certificate courses in such international schools as Beauty Base in Bloombsbury, London (2007), The Makeup Institute in San Francisco (2008), and Fashion Up-To-Date School in Milan (2009).
Today, Jigs works as a freelance makeup artist after five years with L'Oreal. Style Bible decided to pick the brain of this makeup guru to uncover some much needed expert beauty insider tips.
