When it comes to wearing makeup for the beach, we like to keep it light. The full coverage foundations and 50-shade palettes are left at home, and in place are lightweight skin tints, illuminating cream sticks, and tinted balms to name a few. So yes, we’re still playing with makeup, but with an easier, less-is-more approach. We also end up experimenting with a few techniques we normally wouldn’t, like liquid-liner dotted freckles, faux sunburnt cheeks, highlighted-to-the-heavens illuminators and a lot of other beach-inspired styles.
So if you have a vacation coming up, scroll ahead. We’ve rounded up ten beachside beauty looks by celebrities and influencers that’s easy to do, light on the skin, and will leave you looking radiant.
10 Pretty Beach Makeup Looks, As Seen on Celebrities
1. Peachy Keen
Behold, the quintessential summer makeup look. If you want to learn the basics of beachside beauty, take notes from this look by Marie Lozano. Start with a barely-there base with your favorite tinted moisturizer or BB cream, then, do a light wash of peachy blush on the apples of your cheeks. Keep your brows light by filling them in with a pencil, and for lips, go for a hydrating balm with the faintest tint.
2. Bronzed Goddess
There’s nothing that defines summer beauty quite like a bronzed glow. As sexy and sultry as it is healthy-looking and glowy, it’s the perfect look for your beachside snaps. Take cues from Gabbi Garcia and don’t hold back with the bronzer–apply liberally by the hollows of your cheekbones. If you want a little more color, finish off with a touch of peach blush.
3. Sunburnt Cheeks
If you want to get that laid-in-the-sun-all-day type of glow without actually letting your skin burn, make it happen with a simple blush placement trick. Maureen Wroblewitz has the look down pat with warm-toned blush dabbed over the higher parts of her cheeks and nose bridge. The thing to keep in mind is finding the spots on your face where the sun will naturally touch first.
4. High Blush
Here’s another way to do the sunburnt look, but one that’s on the softer and sweeter side. Instead of using a warm-toned blush, reach for one that’s pink. It gives off a more doll-like look, taking cues from the beloved K-idol or Douyin style of makeup. We recommend patting the leftover pigment in the middle of your lips for a little flush of color there too.
5. Freckled Face
We would love to have been born with skin that naturally freckles under the sun, but alas, we’ll have to settle with faking it. Toni Sia dons a convincing freckled look, with peach blush placed across the cheeks and nose bridge and liquid eyebrow pen dotted around the same area. Our pro tip is going with a light hand so that the pigment looks light and natural.
When you’re rushing out the door to make it to happy hour, reach for your favorite multistick. Dab the pigment onto your cheeks and lips for a monochromatic makeup look like Katarina Rodriguez's. You can leave it at that, but, if you have a few extra minutes, a basic eye makeup routine (nothing more than mascara and filled-in brows) can really pull it all together.
7. Orange Eyeshadow
Our love for orange-colored tints don’t end with blush–we love it as a daytime eyeshadow, too. Just the faintest wash (like what’s seen here on Anne Curtis) will do wonders for brightening up your complexion. It’s a fun way to add a little color to your vacation looks, especially if you’re wearing a lot of neutrals.
8. A Touch of Glamour
“Glamour” isn’t the first word that comes to mind when talking beachside beauty, but Heart Evangelista shows us that you can bring a little of it wherever you go. For her seaside makeup look, she keeps the attention on her eyes with dramatic eyelash extensions, and our favorite–a light sweep of glitter across her lids. It's the faitest touch, but brings a lot of magic to the overall look.
9. A Small, Winged Liner
For the girl who loves her winged eyeliner, here’s some good news: you don’t have to part with it for the beach. There’s a more casual, pared-down way you can do it, shown here by Loisa Andalio. Skip the base products, fill in your brows lightly, and finish off with a light, my-lips-but-better type of lipstick. It’s as easy as easy gets, all while making you look like you put in a lot of effort.
10. Glowing Skin with Smoky Eyes
For beachside beauty, glowing skin will always be in, but adding a smoky eye can bring it to sultrier heights. Brush some shimmering brown shadows on your eyelid, being not-too-precise with it so it still looks effortless. We’d double down on the highlighter afterwards, adding a bit more on top of the cheekbones. If your vacation agenda includes a round of nighttime bar-hopping, here’s a fitting look!
