Regardless of how successful you are, people will always find something negative to say. Seasoned celebrities know this best—if they can't talk down about your achievements, they'll criticize you for something ridiculous instead—like your age or your looks. Fortunately, their years in show biz have taught these stars how to best handle uncalled for comments. A great example would be Bea Alonzo, who responded so gracefully to a netizen that called her "old."
In a vlog about reacting to mean comments, Bea read the following comment: "Isn't it too late for you to be doing this endorsement watching it you're old to be a model for this commercial may kulubot ka na."
In response to the comment, Bea said, "I am 34 years old, I'm about to turn 35 this year and I am proud of it. I am taking care of myself as much as I can. I exercise, I eat healthy, and parang feeling ko proud ako sa itsura ko at 34 years old.
"Kung kinuha ako ng certain brand, that was actually very flattering for me kasi di ko naman ipinilit yung sarili ko para kuhanin nila ako so I am proud of it."
While it wasn't specified in the video, the netizen was likely talking about Bea being a famous liquor brand's calendar girl for 2021. The actress shot sultry images for that endorsement and they quickly went viral.
After defending herself, Bea couldn't help calling out the culture of age-shaming in the industry. "It's about time na tigilan na ng mga tao na [mag-shame] ng mga tao na nagkakedad," she stressed. "It's 2022!"
We can't agree more with you on that one, Bea!
