Gaining weight seems to be everyone's complaint a year into the COVID-19 pandemic. For celebrities like Bea Alonzo, this type of gain is as alarming as the increase in prices of food commodities. In her vlog, the actress got candid about the 15 to 20 pounds she has to lose.

Bea's diet and workout routine

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last February 11, 2021 via Zoom, she talked about her current diet and workout routine to to get back in shape. She said, "Noong nag-pescetarian ako for three years and then nung 2019, I went back to eating meat. And then ngayon, I eat anything I want but in moderation lang. I gained weight nung pandemic, but that’s okay, I’m trying to lose it. Di ba, sabi nga, don’t be too harsh on yourself."

As for workouts, Bea prefers variety. She said, "Nagba-badminton ako ngayon. I also do Pilates and some weight training. So hangga’t may oras pinu-push ko."

Bea started playing badminton at the start of the year, and trained under professional badminton athlete Edison Cupcupin. She plays four times a week. Bea told PEP.ph, "It makes me feel good sa totoo lang kasi gusto ko rin na may kalaro. Like, for example, sa badminton, it makes me feel good na apart from being active, I’m doing something na parang it pushes me to be more competitive."

Meanwhile, the actress shares what attracted her to doing Pilates. She says, "Yung Pilates naman, it makes me feel strong and I like it. I like the poses plus, siyempre, 33 [years old] na tayo. Pinaghahandaan ko na yung bones ko in the future. I want to have more lean bones and have a more slender body."

Bea does Pilates two to three times a week at Prana Movement Studio in San Juan City. She has been training under Laarni Burgos since the start of the year. The actress said she does her workout with weights three times a week in her home gym with fitness trainer Jay Garcia.

"Yung weight training naman kasi meron akong problema sa right arm ko. Nadi-dislocate iyan so kailangan ko ng constant training para hindi siya bumagsak."

Bea quipped about owning a gym, "Wow, feeling mayaman," and quickly clarified, "It’s a small gym. Yung trainer ko, he comes here to train me, si Coach Jay. Kaunti lang yung gamit ko but it works naman."
