If we’re being completely honest, social media is a scary place to be one's true self. It’s in Instagram’s pretty, curated squares that people feel the need to post only their best and most picture-perfect moments. And this scenario is even more understandable for public figures. They prefer to show only the best versions of themselves online as any imperfection will be broken down by harsh critics.
LOOK: Barbie Imperial flaunts stretch marks on her chest
But once in a while, a celebrity will come forward with a refreshing take that shows us they’re just normal human beings. Enter Barbie Imperial and her recent Instagram selfie where she unapologetically flaunted her stretch marks. While other celebrities who have come forward about the same marks usually showed them on their lower region, Barbie is normalizing having tiger stripes on her chest!
The actress posted shots of herself last May 18 wearing a green sundress over a pink bikini with the photo’s angle highlighting the stripes on her décolletage. “Ya I know, it’s normal”, she captioned the post—and we couldn’t agree more!
Friends of Barbie even took to the comments section and expressed their support for the actress’ post.
In an exclusive interview with Preview, Barbie shared that her marks were something she used to be insecure about before. She even went so far as editing them out of her photos! However, it all changed when she realized that they were just normal aspects of her body. “I wanna show people na having stretch marks is not a bad thing, it’s not even a flaw. Stretch marks are normal and they’re actually beautiful,” she explains.
The actress adds that after taking the photo, she decided right there that she was going to upload it on her IG. “I took that photo last week and when I saw my stretch marks [and] parang naisip ko, I will post this. A lot of women have stretch marks; we actually get judged for having it. I want women/people to feel na okay lang magka-stretch marks and that it’s normal.”
When asked what message she would want to impart to audiences who also have the same marks she has, the actress kept it short but sweet: “Stretch marks are normal! It’s okay! You’re beautiful with or without it.”
Hear, hear, Barbie!
