Q: How do I care for my colored hair properly?
A: Filipinas usually resort to more conservative shades of dark brown to burnt sienna. Last month, I decided to try a diffrent turn and headed to Salon Beauvoir to have my hair dyed into a light golden brown for a change. Having light colored locks require extra care than having the usual espresso hair color. The lighter shade done on the hair, the weaker it becomes. Maintaning colored hair takes commitment and conscious effort. I changed my usual hair routine and included special add-ons to keep all things glossy and presentable.
Let's start with proper cleansing. Look for shampoos and conditioners that are made for colored hair. Lucky for us, there are now several brands available in our local drugstores that carry this type. Since colored hair tends to dry, bring back the moisture by conditioning your strands everyday and use a nourishing hair mask weekly. Rinse your hair always with cold water as hot water strips off the color thus making it fade faster.
When it comes to styling hair, stay away as much as possible from heating hair tools. If you cannot help it, spritz on heat protecting spray before twirling the curling iron on your hair. It may all seem to be high-maintenance to have colored locks but take our word for it, it's fun to show off your hair when you switch up shades.
