There's always something new to learn about makeup, especially when you get the chance to talk about it with the pros. That's why when Camille Co uploaded an interview with Anthea Bueno on her YouTube channel, we couldn't help but breeze right through the 50-minute video to learn some of the celebrity makeup artist's coveted tips and tricks. We took notes, of course—so in case you don't have an hour to spare, here are some of the highlights:
Tips from Celebrity Makeup Artist Anthea Bueno:
1. Use a face mist to fix cakey makeup.
Anthea says that misting will settle the powdery look on your skin and give it an instant refresh. She recommends using a face mist with a bit of oil in it to blend out any creases and patches. You can use your fingers to smooth things out, but the makeup artist suggests applying the mist on a makeup sponge and patting over the creases.
2. Opt for a hard cream concealer for acne marks.
The makeup artist shares that cream concealers with a hard, dry consistency are perfect for hiding dark spots because they have less oil that would cause the product to fade or move around throughout the day. Her favorite spot concealers are Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage and Kryolan's Derma Color for their shade ranges and high-coverage formulas.
3. Brush your brows with a brow mascara before filling them in.
Her best tip for achieving natural-looking brows is actually to start with a brow gel! "It coats the brow hairs and you can see that you actually have more brow hairs than you thought you did," she explains. Once your arches are all coated and brushed up, you'll see exactly where you need filling in instead of coating your entire brow with product.
4. Layer products for a long-lasting glow.
According to Anthea, the key to a long-lasting glow lies in your skin prep. Hydrate your skin well with products that suit your skin type, and then follow that up with an illuminating primer before applying foundation. Pat some cream highlighter on the high points of your face as the final step in your makeup routine for an intense glow!
5. Invest in good makeup brushes.
Whether you're just a beginner or an aspiring makeup artist, Anthea recommends investing in high-quality tools like brushes and sponges. "When you have the nicest tools to work with, it's gonna make your life so much easier," she says. By that, she means your makeup will apply better, and that you'll be less likely to repurchase new tools so often.
