You may have noticed that the girls of K-pop sensations Twice and Blackpink have a certain sparkle in their eyes on stage. You may think it’s just their sheer charisma and stage presence, but it’s also thanks to this K-beauty makeup look called "aegyosal" which loosely translates to "charming eye fat". This idol-famous trend emphasizes the area under the eyes, giving us cuter way to look at our eyebags.
If you want to try the trend yourself, Korean beauty Youtuber Bbomni has all the tips for you. In a video tutorial that garnered over 662,000 hits, Bbomni takes her viewers through an in-depth tutorial on how to perfect their aegyosal makeup, and we broke it all down for you below!
How to Do "Aegyosal" Makeup Like a K-pop Idol
1. Take note of proper placement.
If you're still unsure where your aegyosal is, try smiling or squinting in front of a mirror. The skin under your eyes that balloon when you make those expressions is what you're looking to define!

2. Have a solid base.
Just like how we apply primer on our eyes for eyeshadow, you should apply a small amount of eye primer to your undereyes for this method. From there, follow up with a concealer pencil or cream concealer to further highlight your aegyosal.

3. Add subtle shimmer.
Instead of using a product with chunky glitter, grab a shimmery highlight color with a satin finish and lay the product directly on top of your aegyosal base. Bbomni uses a champagne shade, but we recommend using a shade that compliments your skin tone the best.

4. Use a detail brush for precision.
Because placement is important, using a bullet brush (or any brush with short, compact bristles) enables you to place your products exactly where they need to be.

5. Find the right aegyosal contour shade.
Just like when you're contouring your cheekbones, it’s important to use the correct shade for contouring your undereyes. To make yours stand out even more, try mixing a light warm brown and a medium brown together to create the perfect color to give your eyes warmth and depth. Feel free to adjust this depending on your skin tone—the key is to achieve subtle definition.

6. Contour according to your eye shape.
When shading in the outer V of your under eye, you can create the illusion of a more lifted look or a softer "puppy eye" depending on your shadow placement. Just make sure to not go over the areas where you applied your aegyosal base!
For the lifted eye: Using your contour shade, place the color from the bottom third of your lower lashes up to where your eyeliner would be.
For the puppy eye look: Instead of swiping your contour upwards, place the shadow on your outer V and extend the product in a straight line, parallel to your eyeliner/upper lashes.

7. Define your inner corners.
Using a small detail brush, take the same contour powder you used before and apply the product to your inner corner and inner third of your bottom lash line. Doing this not only gives your eyes soft definition, but makes your eyes appear bigger! Plus, using a powder instead of an eyeliner also looks less harsh than if you were to use an eyeliner.

8. When adding depth, don’t forget the front of your eyes.
Bbomni says to always connect your aegyosal contour with your inner corners. This way, one side doesn't look heavier than the other and the entire look is well-balanced.
Optional: Give your aegyosal a shadow.
Using a lighter, cool-toned contour shade, place the product directly underneath your aegyosal base. Start from the center of your eye then blend the rest of the product back and forth. This will highlight your base even further, really making your aegyosal standout.

Optional: Finish off with some glitter.
To give yourself the full aegyosal experience, you can add a glitter gel product to your undereyes! To avoid messy application, Bbomni suggests you tap or stipple on the glitter instead of swiping it on to achieve a clean finish.
