5 Eighties Hairstyles Worth Trying, as Seen on 'Stranger Things'

What was cool decades ago always makes a comeback. Recently, we’ve turned our attention to '80s hairstyles. If you’re looking for inspo on old-school looks, look to Netflix’s Stranger Things. The show is a homage to that decade in hair. Even some of our favorite celebs and influencers were spotted wearing the era's funky hairstyles at PLDT-Smart's Stranger Things Fun Fair in partnership with Netflix held from July 4 to 7 at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium. Here are some of our favorite ‘dos so far and how to achieve them:

1. Eleven’s Half-Ponytail

While we loved Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) buzz cut from Season 1, we’re obsessed with how it has grown to a curly lob in Season 3—there are just so many ways to style it. Take this classic half-ponytail, for example. You can easily recreate this fun look: Gather your hair to a half-pony, and secure it with a velvet neon-colored scrunchie.

Pau Alberto got the look down with the exact same color of scrunchie. She updated the look by styling her bangs out of the ponytail.

2. Max’s Braided Pigtails

This is the defining look of girlhood. For a more adult-appropriate take on the style, go for shorter braids and longer tails.

3. The Lifeguard’s High Ponytail

She may just be an extra, but everything on this lifeguard screams ‘80s: the white-framed sunnies, the red one-piece, the cute belt bag to match, and that high side ponytail. While this hairstyle looks amazing with corkscrew curls, it can also work with wavy or straight hair. Tie your hair at the crown of your head and tease the tail.

Gab Gibbs clearly took some inspo from this scene-stealer when she did her hair in a curly ponytail. The bright accessories and wispy bangs really make the look. Check out her 80’s look video that she did for the PLDT-Smart Stranger Things Fun Fair here.

4. Will’s Bowl Cut

Every kid who grew up in the '80s had this haircut at four years old—much too young to protest. While it seems unfortunate on an unsuspecting child, this haircut, which has become Will’s (Noah Schnapp) signature look, can work on women with quirky personalities. You may want to ask your trusted hairstylist how this iconic haircut can best suit your features.

5. Nancy's Clipped Back 'Do

This sweet, girl-next-door style was a good fit for Nancy (Natalia Dyer) in the first few episodes of Season 1. Get the look by parting your hair in the middle and then twisting the top front section of each side to the back of your head. Secure with a bobby pin or a cute barrette.

Gretchen Ho pulled back her lob Nancy-style in his half-up hairstyle. Since she kept her hair out of her face, her gold hoop earrings stood out even more.
